Wow, what a weekend.
Alan had to come through to the flat for a business meeting, some things we just cannot do over the phone or via the computers. Although the weather was dire, first icy cold, then damp and just dreary, we were tucked up inside working away.
Then his secure computer went down which will mean that I will possibly have to go to Wales for at least a couple of days so that he can go down South to have it seen to back at base. Oh the messing about, made all the more awkward by trying to stay within rules and not actually wanting to go anywhere. Usually whizzing around the country is quite fun and makes a change ... now it just seems fraught with danger!!
This was highlighted all the more this weekend with the news that my younger son Jason and his girlfriend have both tested positive for Covid-19 and are now tucked up at home in Blackpool in poorly isolation. As both are keyworkers their chances of this were so much higher and it's been worrying for a long time, especially with Tash working at Boots the Chemist facing the unwell public on the pharmacy counter every day.
All I can do is check up on him as often as possible via text and Messenger, anything else and he will just get annoyed ... he hates fuss, just like me!! But I have offered to go and drop shopping off on his doorstep if he needs it 😀
It wasn't all work, we had icy dog walks in the fresh air and some cosy television watching sharing the last bottle of wine left over from Christmas.
And after a late on the rations Sunday lunch Alan had a snooze and then set off back for home in Wales with Mavis.
Now it's another week, the ice has gone and the rain is once again pouring down, Suky is snoring in her littlest dog bed and I am having a read around blogland before doing a spot of rations menu planning for this week.
Oh, and we have just had an offer on the house, a very cheeky offer and we have said NO!!
Sue xx
I hope that your son and his girlfriend are soon well, it is a worry and I totally understand about your feelings regarding travelling. My son's next surgery is scheduled for 9th March, my eldest son is going to drive us to Bristol for this, but they want us to go there on the 1st for pre op assessment which takes only 1 hour and he can't help with that and a 2 and a half hour journey ( we are in Cornwall ), twice in one day for that amount of time seems silly and they won't let our local surgery or hospital do the tests and forward the information, they must have their reasons but it is very frustrating and sadly the op can't be put off any longer as he is still having the seizures, so many people must be facing similar problems and I do feel for them.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh Chrissie, that sounds like it's going to be so tough. I do hope it goes well this time. xx
DeleteHope your son and girlfriend are not too poorly and it soon goes.
ReplyDeleteThat was the amazing thing about selling here, just one offer at the full price - that's why I said yes! Now it's gone very quiet, solicitors are so busy, just hoping it's all going well even if I don't hear anything. Perhaps your people will come back with a more sensible offer.
They say they both feel extremely tired and flu-ey, with Tash also having lost all sense of taste ... which is helping slightly she says, as her brother is cooking for them, he lives next door with Tash's Dad, but is not a brilliant cook!!
DeleteIt wasn't just a silly offer really it was extremely insulting ... £75,000 under the asking price ... and that was after them being told by the estate agent that our house was already on the market at well below it's worth.
I'm so sorry to hear that Covid has reached your family. It must be frustrating not being able to do much to help either. I hope they both make a full recovery very soon.
ReplyDeleteIt must be infuriating having computer problems right now too, especially as you say you don't really want to go anywhere.
BTW that pie looks delicious. I can imagine it smothered in Bisto! Yummy!
Stay well Sue x
Oh it was delicious when we poured the Bisto over :-)
DeleteI think the worst part of covid is not being able to help out. When my husband's son was sick, we could only hang a bag on his door and run...leave hot soup...and run...
ReplyDeleteIt is frustrating, but as I only see him once or twice a year anyway it doesn't feel too unusual.
DeleteHope your son and his girlfriend heal quickly. It is stressful to sell a house - hope your buyers come back with a better offer.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteWe just want to be able to break even on what we bought it for and what we have spent on it, it is actually worth more than it's on the market for anyway, we just wanted a quicker sale. They are not having it until they reach that threshold.
I'm so sorry to hear about Jason and his girlfriend, I hope they start feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a pain about the computer and you having to travel, a concept that is not at all appealing at the moment.
I'm very impressed that you're doing your ration challenge with some era appropriate Beryl Ware! xxx
Oh yes the Beryl Ware has been called into play for this year, along with a touch of Jasmine. All the white china has been put on the top shelves of the cupboard :-)
DeleteI hope Jason and his girlfriend are improving. Every journey is worrying these days isn't it.
ReplyDeleteThey are getting worse at the moment, hopefully they will be over the hump and start recovering soon.
DeleteYes, I am always wary of being stopped for a check, not because I am doing anything wrong it's just the thought of having to talk to a Policeman that has been talking to lots of other people during his shift.
I wish Jason and his girlfriend a speedy recovery, its an awful thing. Life has become so complicated and I dare say it will be even more if the next round of rules come into force. What a shame about the offer, fingers crossed for something positive on the home front soon. X
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. xx
DeleteWishing restored health to your son and his girlfriend. Scary times.
ReplyDeleteSeems strange that so many people are talking about having computer problems in the last couple of weeks. Seems like multiple people (on blogs) I've been reading have indicated issues recently. (Probably dodgy updates.)
Best of luck with a better (real) offer on the property.
This is a very particular and sensitive work computer, so not the usual type of problem unfortunately.
DeleteThank you. If they comeback to us with a sensible offer we will accept, but as they have now insulted us we will not be leaving behind the things that we had planned to to help the next owners, they will be getting just the basics and we will sell off everything else ... my son even said we should take the AGA out, but that's a step too far :-)
I know so many people with the virus now and all are very poorly. We are just staying in apart from shopping once a week and more infrequently if we can. Little Freddie our grandson is dropped off at the door so we can look after him rather than him go to nursery where it seems to be spreading this time around. Hope your son and girlfriend recover well.
ReplyDeleteIt is now touching everyone's lives isn't it. I am now not shopping unless I really have to, if I run out of something I make do with other things. I am keeping a list and only when it is really full and I have to, will I go to the shops. They are quite off colour at the moment but are at home and nursing each other.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about your son and his girlfriend. I hope they have a mild case and heal without any lasting problems. Maybe that offer on the house will lead to some more realistic offers! I sure hope so. Take care and stay warm!
ReplyDeleteThe person that put in the insulting offer was someone who really wants our place, has done lots of research about what we have installed and has plans that utilise all of it, I think that's why we were so shocked. If he really HAS done the research he will know the value of the installations.
DeleteWhat a worry about your son and his girlfriend. I hope they don't get it badly or for any length of time. You must be worried sick.
ReplyDeleteThere is talk of a double-dip recession so I hope that the silly offer you had on your property gets upped. We first went on the market 11 years ago - had to come off a few times due to having work done on the house - but we could never add a penny extra to the price - even though we had been spending £25K each time, twice. It was so frustrating. We have just sold at the price we reduced our house to 6 years back - our buyer doesn't realize what a bargain he is getting as we daren't tell him how long it took to sell. (Being next to a dairy farm didn't help our cause . . .)
They've been ill for just over a week now, hopefully they will be on the road to recovery soon.
DeleteAs I mentioned in another comments answer the offer wasn't just silly it was insulting, we were shocked as the potential buyer says he knows what all the installations are worth. Our estate agent has family links to our house and knows it and the work we have done to it inside out AND he is the agent that initially valued it at well over the first asking price, never mind this new lower one. To offer £75,000 less than the reduced asking price on a house is not playing the game at all.
I do hope your son and his girlfriend have minor cases. Our eldest son had it (a teacher) and it was a mild case thank heavens. He lives 9 hours away so there was lots of calls.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Jason has said it is like a very bad cold but with achey joints and constant fatigue, but he downplays everything and is not your usual 'lie on the sofa if you have the sniffles' type of guy. He has barely had a day of work in his life so he's finding all this very hard. I am keeping in touch via Messenger every day, he's too poorly to chat on the phone.
DeleteI hope you son and girlfriend get over it soon with no complications.
ReplyDeleteThank you. xx
DeleteHoping all goes for the best, good health again for your babes, traveling as little as possible, the computer works before you have to go have it seen about and a sensible offer on your place. Hoping that was their game...it doesn't hurt to offer less all you can do is say no..then offer up. Fingers crossed and toes too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, not exactly babes they are both in their 30s ;-)
DeleteThe computer will not recover it is a very specialist piece of equipment this particular one.
It most definintely does hurt to make an offer so low that you insult the vendors!! If they do end up buying our place they will not now be having all the extras we were going to throw in for the future owners. They have well and truly shot themselves in the foot.
Lots of causes for anxiety in your life at the moment, so I hope they resolve soon. Selling a house is such a lottery isn't it. I hope you get a respectable offer ...today!
ReplyDeleteWe'll see if they come back to us, it's a good job it was Alan that took the offer phone call I would have been exceptionally rude ... haha!
DeleteHoping your son and Tash are OK, that it's a mild dose and they recover quickly. It must be a huge worry.
ReplyDeletexx
It is a worry but they have her Dad and brother living next door, so we do have that reassurance. Well at least they won't starve!!
DeleteI really hope Jason and Tash are feeling so much better, what a worry for everyone:( Love your Sunday lunch♥ xx
ReplyDeleteIt must be such a worry for you. I hope your son and his girlfriend are now on the road to recovery. X
