The news isn't the news any more ... on national television things that should and do actually matter get pushed aside for trivialities. I don't know who figures out what the headlines should be or the running order of said headlines but they really do need to wake up and smell the roses ... and get things in order of actual perspective.
It's just the same when you fire up your computer, the headlines of the day or week are lost amongst things like 'savvy nan turns overgrown garden into an oasis with a gin corner', celebrities that I have barely heard of have welcomed a 'new addition to the family' ... but don't get too excited it's an animal to their zoo!!
I mean who decides!!
My 'news' for the week is sporadic and bitty, but something nice that did happen was this little visit from little Mr Bee. Buzzing around Wendy the Weed and gathering in the food, and giving me time to pick up my phone and photograph the proceedings.
It was just a little highlight of my weekend ... but if I phoned it through to the BBC maybe they would run it as the headline for tonight, and put 6% interest rates for mortgages next year down to 10th place.
Other news from the weekend, We had a day out minus the dogs yesterday and had a wander around the big car boot sale in Bilsborough. I went armed with £10 of change from my little wooden savings box but only managed to spend 70p ... I am obviously way out of practice. 😄
Twenty pence on the little bowl and 50p on the little oak frame which was empty when I bought it, but I knew one of my little pictures would fit in perfectly.
And it just completes this little area perfectly.
And that folks ... is the news. 😁

You're so right! The news is full of negative stories that no one even cares about. And they will always choose the bad stories over anything positive. I stopped watching the news many years ago, but especially during Covid. Most journalists turned into fools at that point. Lies, lies and more lies.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more, Debbie. I hardly watch the news now, partly for the reasons you mention, partly because it sends my stress and anxiety levels into the stratosphere. Much better to look at pictures of bees on flowers :)
DeleteI agree Debbie, and the lies coming out at the moment about what went on during the lockdowns are horrendous, it really makes you wonder what our politicians are up to doesn't it.
DeleteBees on flowers are SO much better aren't they Puddock. :-)
DeleteI completely agree. So much of the news, particularly on the BBC is in fact trails for their upcoming programmes. Too much emphasis on various Royals and their doings. Surely there are other important things going on around the world?
ReplyDeleteThe BBC are getting to be almost as bad as ITV in their 'coming up' parts of programmes that you are actually already watching too, or the dreaded 'later in this programme' ... it's enough to make me turn off there and then. I don't mind watching about the royals when they are working at things that matter, but when it's speculation about their private lives it's much too much. They are not a soap opera ... but I guess all through the ages they have been treated like one.
DeleteI just turned over from the 1 O'Clock news to tennis - much more interesting!
ReplyDeleteOh no ... it's tennis season!! I am sport phobic so thank goodness for Netflix, Prime and all the films I have recorded. :-)
DeleteYou're so right, the so-called 'news' really annoys me - yet husband wants to watch it 3x a day!! (morning, lunchtime and teatime). That little wooden frame is gorgeous, and what a bargain!
ReplyDeleteAlan used to watch a lot more news, but even he draws the line at the same news in three separate bulletins throughout the day.
DeleteI know an oak frame for 50p - result!
One recent news 'headline' here was that a celebrity announced that he was on the beginning stages of periodontal disease. I wish I could say I was joking, but I am not.
ReplyDeleteHaha, just brilliant ... and also very worrying on many levels, what are we coming to if someone somewhere thinks that this is news?
DeleteYou are so right about the 'news' , and the celebrity hero culture is totally bizarre imho.
ReplyDeleteYour car boot finds are very appealing, especially the little bowl.

Celebrity 'heroes', influencers brandishing so much power ... the world is in a very strange place at the moment.
DeleteAt least when I read your news, I know it's really happening. Fiction gets mixed up with real news. What is happening on Coronation Street or Emmerdale, is not real news.
ReplyDeleteIt really does doesn't it, fiction and endless speculation. I HATE it when a newsreader suddenly starts telling us of an imminent death in one of the soaps, I feel like screaming at the TV 'it's NOT real'.
DeleteThe news (media) these days is a way to program the masses to be disturbed about the world we live in and to behave a certain way that is destructive. It's rigged.
ReplyDeleteI agree, they are trying to make us all think in very specific ways, those of us in the know just have to stay radical and sane, and keep spreading the word.
DeleteThoroughly agree. We start watching at 7:10 and switch off at 7:20!
ReplyDeleteA whole ten minutes ... I usually just hear the headlines at 6pm on BBC and then quickly switch over to something I actually want to watch. I must watch properly about once a week now and that's usually if it's something to do with work.
DeleteAnd don't forget that everything is stretched out to tedious lengths by a reporter shoving a microphone into the faces of various people wandering around a random shopping centre and then asking them what they think. Who cares?
ReplyDeleteExactly!!
DeleteSurprising people on the streets with questions like that actually achieves nothing ... except maybe giving them their 30 seconds of fame.
I am trying to stay as far away from news as possible. Hard, but I am managing to get better at that.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It's a good feeling to be totally oblivious at times isn't it. I think a weekly catch-up is enough for anyone.
DeleteI remember when the only "new" news was at "Nine O'clock" on the BBC.
ReplyDeleteNow there is a 24-hour rolling news cycle to fill and it seems to me as if producers with half-empty brains fill our airways with whatever cr*p they can come up with to try and get your attention.
Catching headlines and ratings seems to matter more than the truth and facts these days.
That's it, when the need to 'fill' time with news came on us all the drivel that now passes for news was added to the programmes and repeated over and over throughout the day. Click bait headlines are just annoying.
DeletePS: and don't get me started on news outlets not covering 'real' political stories in depth because to do so would p*ss off the wrong people and potentially lose the reporters {I use that word advisedly} their lobby privileges/access.
ReplyDeleteEveryone is answerable to their masters these days it would seem.
DeleteThe frame is nice and I absolutely LOVE that bowl - my sort of thing, without any doubt.
ReplyDeleteI watch 'Have I Got (a Bit More) News For You' for the REAL headlines (partly not serious here!).
xx
For 20p I just couldn't leave it lying on the grass. :-)
