Something I did decide to do this morning was to get out my box of greetings cards. When I was out and about shopping more regularly I would always keep my eyes open for nice cards, especially those with Pugs on and buy them for future use. I have been steadily using them over the last year but now I will make even more of an effort to match people with the cards that I already have.
As you can see from the photo I have a few Christmas cards in there too, as I have obviously not found or used them in time for this year they will be very useful for Christmas 2022, and it will most like mean I only have to make enough money to buy one pack more.
I got together two cards of the cards that I will need for January (the other one is Alan's birthday card for this weekend, but I'm not showing it here in case he pops in for a nosy), and two of the ones I need for February, the only one missing for February is actually for Alan's sister ... so I think he can add that one to his shopping bill 😀
I've already done too much lifting and shifting recently and I'm not supposed to lift or move anything heavy, but no-one told Ginger that and then last night after I had gone to bed he got himself wedged behind this bookcase. He managed to get along the back to the back of the sideboard and I just about moved it enough for me to be able to get my hands under his little pussycat armpits and lift him out. It can't have been comfortable for him, but he did have the grace to look very grateful. It's not like him at all to get up to scrapes like this, most unusual. 🐱

DeleteYes, the bookcase has a lot of character, it used to look lovely in my shop filled with lavender goodies.
I try to buy or make 6 months worth of birthday cards in advance. And I always purchase one pack of Christmas cards in the sales. I got 16 M&S cards for £1.25 (75% off), no wrapping paper as I have enough. I always buy a stripy or plain 'on sale' Christmas paper that will do birthdays too.

DeleteI'm sorry that Ginger got stuck and that you had to get him out which probably wasn't great for you either. I've been clearing and sorting and will not need Christmas cards at any point in the near future. I also discovered a trove of pencils, cards and card stock I can happily use up this year.

ReplyDeleteI bought cards to color last year and enjoyed doing that. It was something productive to do while I watched TV. I also have been saving a lot of the nice photos that are on blogs I read so that I might print them out to use as cards. Might get expensive tho as my printer's toner is costly... I often see cards at resale shops so I will watch for bargains to stock up. Thanks for the ideas!
It is expensive to do a lot of printing these days isn't it, but using printed pictures for cards is a good idea. 😀

ReplyDeleteLike you, I have a healthy stash of notebooks, other cards, and writing/painting/drawing implements. But whether I will behave myself if I get near any pretty and/or enticing articles named above is another matter altogether. Not going anywhere at the moment, so safe for now. :)

DeletePoor Ginger - might he have got excited chasing a mouse and got stuck, perhaps? I hope your back recovers with rest, that bookcase looks mighty heavy. Our chance of a 'frugal' year went up in smoke on 2nd January with a completely daed dishwasher. It was far too old to be worth the huge callout fee -over sixty quid! - so we bought a replacement. Which got me thinking that all the other appliances in the kitchen are the same age as dishwasher, so might go out in sympathy. And worse still, the fridge-freezer is way older than all of them. What a terrible thought.
ReplyDeleteNo definintely no mice here, with Mavis' excellent mouse-ing nose it wouldn't stand a chance and she would always alert me. More likely he was just exploring behind the curtains and jumped down at the wrong end of the windowsill thinking he could fit out that way. He won't be doing it again for sure, he looked so scared.
DeleteWow, what a bad start to the year, poor you. I've never had a dishwasher so it's one thing I don't have to worry about thank goodness. As we have both just moved into our properties no doubt all our appliances will start to go at the same time, at least we will have money back in the bank before they do. My oldest appliance is the washing machine which I bought when I was at the flat, and so is around eighteen months old everything else is just six months old. Everything else we had was sold along with the Welsh house.
