I thought I would try to use the last two Linda McCartney sausages from one of the boxes in the freezer and make myself four sausage rolls. Now I love sage and onion stuffing so I thought that a mostly stuffing filling with just a hint of sausage would be really good.
I let them thaw for a while and made up a small bowl of stuffing, mashed the two together and cooked them in the sausage roll maker.
Now they were nice and made for a very satisfactory lunch, but they were just a little bit too bland as they were. Next time I will perhaps add some very well seasoned and 'chilli-flaked' mashed potatoes to the mix and perhaps some cooked onions too. If I do I'll report back.
As you can see I am still having great fun experimenting with my sausage roll maker.

I made a huge sausage plait last week, to freeze for caravan lunches. I did the same as you - sage & onion stuffing mix (also my favourite), mixed with (pork) deskinned sausages. I also added a squirt of tomato puree and a great big dollop of chutney - lovely, that made all the difference to the taste. Continue having fun and showing us the results!
ReplyDeleteI used to love the Linda McCartney Sausage Meat and Red Onion Plaits, there were a lot of us very disappointed when they were discontinued a few years ago. I may have to do something similar if I get fed up of sausage roll shaped things. It is nice experimenting though isn't it. :-)
DeleteI would love a sausage roll maker, but mum missed out on it . I have a blend jet 2 blender and you can charge and make smoothies anywhere. I love it since I got told off by the doctor that I need more iron. So Paul has been on smoothie making duty. Plus I make them at work as I like to know what goes into my food. Paul makes good veggie sausage rolls anyway.
ReplyDeleteHe adds cheese to mine as I crave cheese as well.
Oooh, yes ... cheese would have been a good addition to these!!
DeleteThey sound really lovely. I keep hoping Aldi will have more machines in. xx
ReplyDeleteThey probably will at some point, they do seem to repeat the middle aisle offerings.
DeleteI love how nicely browned those sausage rolls are.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
They are slightly too brown for me, I like everything pale, but they were tasty.
DeleteThe sausage rolls look very professional . Eloise
ReplyDeleteThey are very easy to turn out from the sausage roll maker.
DeleteHow about adding a dash of Henderson's Relish to the sausage roll mixture? I find it gives most things a lovely flavour :)
