Mavis posing prettily yesterday, she knows how to look dainty and delicate.
And Suky has sleeping and dozing to a fine art form.
But they do occasionally drag them selves off the sofa and out of the doggy beds.
The riverside walks this past week have been different every day, from cold and icy to windy and wet with the odd warmer day thrown in for good measure. This photo was taken on Saturdays walk and already after a day of sunshine yesterday and this morning starting gloriously well the large Willow tree is much greener and everything already feels more Spring-like and fresh.
The birds along the riverbank are nesting and as we walk Mavis is tempted over and over to dash to peer in the hedges and borders when she hears them chunnering and pushing through the branches.
Right at the start of the path though, we are warned that some birds must be much more dangerous!!
The house with a lot of land at the side of the river have just added this sign to the other instructions at the start of the riverside path, much to our amusement. It's nice to look over their gate at the new additions. They are a mix of rescued hybrids, like our 'brown girls' and a couple of Skylines, the sort we had that laid the blue eggs. The most recent addition to their mixed flock of chickens and ducks are some Indian Runner ducks, which Mavis finds fascinating to watch as they run across the field in their comically upright position.
There's always something to see as we walk along the riverbank each day, I wonder if the canal-side living will be as entertaining ... gosh I do hope so, I love living by water.

DeleteEven though I rarely do go down there these days, over the years I must have walked along the river near us hundreds of times and it is always different, always something to see which was not there the previous time. Once restrictions are eased you will have boats to look at as well, and they are always so interesting.
ReplyDeleteA long time ago we had a tiny boat on the Kennet & Avon Canal . . . I still miss it (you don't get many canals in the Lake District 😜)
In the two and a half years I've lived on this stretch of the river I have only ever seen a couple of canoes. It gets very shallow in places ... even the ducks paddle 😄🤣
DeleteI'll have lots of boats to look at once I move as our doggy walks will be on this usually busy part of the canal.
Love how your dogs are so so comfortable in their doggy beds. Living by the water is peaceful and to be able to take walks along a clean river is a blessing. I am not sure of the sign, "Beware of chickens." WHY?!!

Mavis does look dainty and delicate, although I imagine, with being a terrier, this is not actually the case. X
ReplyDeleteShe is actually a Parson Russell terrier so very light boned and long legged compared to a Jack Russell terrier. She can be very dainty when she wants to be ❤️

DeleteThe owners of the house with a lot of land by the river must have to put up a lot with idiot dog owners. I can only imagine. Some people should never own dogs, let alone take them off their own property. I wish more dog owners were like you folks! ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe land and path along the river are public land,owned by the local council. The people with the chickens and ducks have just added their sign to a council one already there, it's making some people smile and some people very wary of chickens 😄🤣

DeleteWalking along the river is wonderful. Love the chicken sign. I'm just catching up on your posts and enjoyed your video of your new home. Lovely. If you have a hallway, consider opening the wall and put 8 inch wide shelving floor to ceiling and then build tall doors to enclose the shelving. This creates a pantry for dry and wet goods and/or storage for miscellaneous things. 8 inch wide shelving exposes everything and nothing gets forgotten. I've used this design and it works well.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a hallway, that is literally the kitchen space. If I opened a space in the wall I would reach insulation and then I would be outside in the next door neighbour's driveway 😄.
DeleteI am hopefully having a dresser like shelving unit built over and around the radiator which will work as you describe, as pictured in a previous post. 🙂
