I'm in no rush to move into my new place, yes I have the key from next week and that is exciting but it's from then on that I will be making more solid plans. For now I am just dreaming and pondering over what I could have.
As I said on the previous posts, I swing one way and then the next and while I am in that frame of mind I won't make any drastic changes. But hey, even if I did when you only have 341 square feet to worry about there's not much that can go too drastically wrong.
The boilers in both properties have been serviced so we know they are safe, the repairs that needed doing to the house have been done and the cost shared between us and the vendors, so we both know we have safe, secure and fully working homes to go to.
All I am planning for sure is a complete redecoration right the way through my little home by professional painters and decorators. I have spent far too long working on my homes in the past, tiring myself out in the process and making me fall out of love with them right from the get-go, that I think it's time now that I am in the position to be able to do it and make my own mind up about it, to have someone else do it for me and in the process support a small, local business.
That reminds me I must take down the swing this weekend!!

Sue, you are in a great position to stop, dwell and get things exactly right before you move in. I wholeheartedly agree that paying someone else to do the decorating is the best way to go. I just can't gather the enthusiasm or the energy to do it myself anymore either. BTW I love the top picture in your last post too, it's so calming and gentle :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting time for you Sue. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to hearing about the choices you make during this new adventure in your life.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. xx
DeleteI hope its lovely for you when completed, whatever you choose to do.
ReplyDeleteWorking with expert designers/decorators is helpful. Finding a good match and someone that understands your aesthetic is key. When I redid my kitchen I wanted something timeless. Something I could accessorize and personalize, year-to-year, if I so chose. Today, people see my kitchen as a new kitchen, yet it is 5 years old. My floor to ceiling mahogany bookcase allows me to shelve my favorite kitchen things. A pantry holds all can goods and dry goods. The kitchen is all drawers of varying sizes. Everything is immediately visible in drawers. All options to consider. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteWow - so close. I love your plans and I agree that getting someone to do it for you is a great way to go and relieves you of 'memories'
ReplyDeleteSo looking forward to hearing all the exciting adventures heading your way.
xx
Enjoy the process and have fun. ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteNo, don't forget the swing! I think it would be wonderful to hire someone to do the painting. I've always done it myself but as you get older you do get tired of taking on those kinds of jobs. I send you all my best in this move and I look forward to seeing your new lovely home!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plan and will get it done quickly so you can just enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an exciting time for you.
ReplyDeleteI feel like saying "snap"! We will stay in our rental whilst the new house is renovated. I can not face living in the mess and we no longer feel like doing DIY. I want it all very minimal and then I see and think I like something that is seriously not minimal! But I want a house that will be easy to live in and not have to spend hours cleaning or maintaining. So minimal wins out. Loads of luck Sue, enjoy the process and the luxury of not having to rush or do it yourself.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you've decided to let a professional do the work - as I get closer to 70 I'm realising that there are things a CANNOT do, and other things I SHOULD NOT do myself any more. And giving work to a local tradesman in the current climate is a double blessing. Breathe, Sue, breathe. And relax.
ReplyDeleteMy new neighbour moved in 'all guns blazing' for doing this that and the other, changing window frames and things. She now says that she wished she'd fixed the must-be-done-straight-away things but got used to the house a bit longer for a more informed reaction to the new property. This is not an excuse for an old procrastinator like me!
ReplyDeleteGood idea! Decorating yourself is fine when you are young and needs must and all that but it is exhausting and the mess is too much to live with. I think you have the right idea to employ local painters and decorators, gosh they must need the work after this hellish year. All good wishes for a smooth, stress free move.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the finished product. Hiring someone to do the exhausting work is perfect.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
