Yesterday the fencing guys came, and in the space of one day almost completed the fence in the back garden, quite a feat considering that they had to jack-hammer out the concrete blobs that had held the last fence in place.
Our neighbours have been brilliant in letting us remove one of the fence panels from the old fence during all the works, which enabled us to take everything we needed to the back of the house and remove everything we didn't need via their driveway and back garden. Having the annexe attached to the house means that we have no access to our back garden from the front ... which is great from a security point of view but a bit of a hindrance when you are completely renovating both a house and a garden.
So to thank them for this we are paying for the new fence at the back and they are just sharing the cost of a matching but lower fence at the front. Very fortunately, and completely coincidentally they have been away all this week, so when they get back tomorrow all the fencing will be finished. The guys have been very careful not to disturb any of their garden on the other side ... which is mostly grey stones anyway, but it is nice to see how carefully they peeled back the membrane leaving the stones ready to be raked back into position once that final panel is in.
The fence looks great. So fortunate to have good neighbors, too. Looking forward to seeing your little rustic cabin as it develops...a treat of a retreat. Good job on the drawer lining. Another nice touch of cohesion for your bedroom.

DeleteMy husband was looking over my shoulder as I read your post and the first thing out of his mouth was "Who decided to lean all that weight, from those pallets & posts, against a fence? That sure is a good way to get that fence to start leaning too." You sure are doing a LOT of work to your place, both inside & out. If I had to do that much work to a place, right from the get-go, I probably would have kept looking for something else. But it's your place and I'm glad you're happy with it. DeleteGood neighbors are wonderful and it seems you won the lottery with your neighbors. The fence looks great and your wallpaper is lovely. Having a shed is very convenient. You will enjoy the custom rustic design. You continue to make amazing progress arranging everything in your new home.

Your new fence looks great! You are fortunate to have neighbors that are willing to work with you as these have been doing. It is also very kind for you to in turn help out with their fence. The wallpaper lined drawers are beautiful. Did you have trouble getting the clear sticky back plastic over the paper? I have worked with things like that and it seems I suddenly have all thumbs and fight wrinkles in sticking down the plastic. But it is wonderful when you can get it done and then have a washable surface! Everything is looking so good Sue!

DeleteMy mum used pretty wrapping paper for her drawer lining and a recycled episode of Escape to the Chateau had Angel plus one using old magazine and photographs with a layer of PVA glue on top. I prefer to to see the wood and if likely to get accidents with liquids (EdT nail varnish) then they have to go on trays or box lids.
ReplyDeleteI like to see the wood usually, but this seemed a pretty way to use up the paper, and of course it can just be lifted out if I change my mind in the future. 🙂
