The wallpaper in my new bedroom is up and I love it.
The decorator has done a brilliant job, you can't see or feel any of the joins and the match is perfect. The colour soothes my soul ... exactly what you want in a bedroom ... and it and the kitchen cupboard doors will be the accents for the whole annexe.
The tape on the floor was there to see if I could fit a double bed and two bedside cabinet in, now that plans have changed the tape has been pulled up. There will be just the one bedside set of drawers and a small double bed to give some more space at the other side.
Talking of bedside drawers ... the hall back at the flat is looking very cluttered, so yesterday we took three of the biggest boxes to the annexe to start getting things up.
Two of the boxes contained these.
I was originally going to have a chandelier in each of the two rooms, but I just couldn't find any that I loved enough so I changed tack and found these lightshades instead. I'm thrilled with them.
And while Alan put new fittings and cables up for them yesterday,
I oiled the bedroom door.
Just look at the difference one coat of the Linseed Oil makes, it brings out the beauty of the wood wonderfully. A very satisfying job even if it was a bit too much for my poor old back 😢
With the tape gone off the floor and the light shade up the bedroom is starting to come together nicely.
Door finished, and the living room light fitting also installed by my very handy hubby.
While he had the ladders here and was getting used to working at full stretch he decided to take down the bathroom light fitting and add a much longer cable for me, so while he did that I gave the lightshade a really good wash. It turned out it was cream coloured not the dirty mustard colour we thought it was!!
Once that was done we put up the new mirrored bathroom cabinet, which at the moment is the only storage in there. Luckily it has three good shelves with lots of space for toiletries.
A good few hours work and it's coming together with the simplicity that I love and that I had hoped for, but I'm paying the price today. Time for a rest on the comfy upright chair, a few cups of coffee and a good film methinks.

ReplyDeleteI went to my Chiro last week as my back and neck were out - money well spent, and a great chat as always! I have been decorating since and now my shoulders are saying ouch, but that is down to muscles which haven't seen much use during Lockdown!
As all the floors are so beautifully tiled I've decided to just have rugs in all the appropriate places. A large one in the living room that will cover most of the floor and smaller ones in the bedroom at either side of the bed and perhaps at the end too. But I'm holding off from buying them until the furniture is in place and I can see what I need. The colour will be something Pug coloured ;-)

DeleteThe wallpaper is lovely. So calm and pretty. Doesn't absorb the light, rather it casts a softened glow to the room. Shades are brilliant, and as you said, the linseed oil on the doors really enhances the wood. Can feel your happiness and excitement growing each day.

DeleteIts all looking very exciting and has made me realise how different our lives will be too when we move from this large 4 bedroomed Victorian villa to a 3 bedroomed bungalow.. We'll miss the walk in pantry and large lovely bathroom, but we're looking forward to having more time to enjoy ourselves. We're leaving a 130ft x 45ft garden all flower beds, raised veg bed, fruit trees and woodland area to a small grassed area and a hedge. It will be different and we haven't actuswlly seen it only a video done by my son. But its where we want to be so it will be fine.

DeleteIt sounds like we are doing something a bit similar as we are moving from 5 acres of pasture and woodland with my huge growing space and polytunnels to a house with a tiny back garden, which until recently was all stone and decking. My gardening style will have to adapt hugely.
What a transformation already! The place will look lovely! Great choices!

ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see things racing ahead after all the planning. We've owned the properties for 9 weeks now and yes we both can't wait to be in, hopefully it will be within a month ... although my kitchen might be being fitted AFTER I move in.
DeleteI do find it funny that the dirty mustard lampshade is clean cream.
ReplyDeleteWe both had a laugh when we saw what a quick wash did for the shade, and then once I scrubbed at it it looked great. It was originally so high up though that I don't think it had been cleaned since the annexe was built six years ago, now it's lower it will be kept a bit cleaner ;-)

ReplyDeleteWe are hoping to be in by the end of June. My bed arrives on 29th and the tenancy on the flat ends on 16th July so that is our hopeful end date.
DeleteYour choices are so carefully thought out. It will be perfect. I love the way that wood grain 'pops' when finish is applies, and your doors will match with your new furniture finds perfectly.
