The fence between us and next door is finished, and it's looking really good too as this photo taken from the first floor window shows.
This is it from our side ...
... and this is it from theirs.
It felt a bit strange going down their driveway to have a look into their back garden, but as they were away I wanted to check what they would find when they got back home. I thought they would be pleased, and they really were. They rang us to let us know as soon as they saw it.
Good fences make good neighbours.
Over the weekend we went to Daisy Clough garden centre to pick up some bags of compost, some plants and an apple tree. We might also have partaken of a cup of coffee and a sausage bun while we were there, it did seem strange to be out and about and eating out again, strange but very nice.
Although I love the neatness of the neighbours garden I need colour and greenery in mine and I am itching to get things planted in the ground. But first I just have to wait for a ton of top soil to be delivered, while I wait I will sow a couple of the Courgette seeds that I also picked up from the garden centre into a plant pot here at the flat, I know it's late but they should romp away and maybe give me a little taste of homegrown by the end of Summer.
Sue xx
Things are coming along nicely and your plans sound wonderful. Can't wait to see everything come to fruition.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait either, having itchy green fingers and a bad back is so frustrating.
DeleteI thought that it was your 'through the window' photo on Going Gently!
ReplyDeleteIt is, well it's the view from the window so I thought I would share 😀
DeleteVery nice indeed. It looks most attractive.

It's getting there, the worst of the messy stuff is out of the way now, thank goodness.
DeleteThe courgettes should establish very quickly, they do get going quickly this time of year don't they? You must be itching to get in and get on with everything. Oh and thanks for the tip re the PVA :)
ReplyDeleteIt says on the packet that the seeds can still be sown as late as May so I should be fine. I always found ... even in the polytunnels ... that seeds planted late did better than those planted early. I cannot imagine a year without homegrown Courgettes so this makes me VERY happy :-)
DeleteWow! That's much bigger than I first thought! I have a question though. I cannot wait to see it all planted. What is your little 'she shed' going to be used for?
ReplyDeleteMy little rustic shed will have my vintage potting table in it ... an old enamel topped table from my Nana's shed. There I will be able to leave seeds to germinate in their trays each year directly under the window, and there will be space for a couple of shelves and a row of hooks for storing all the little bits of gardening things that I need, pots, trowels, forks, watering can etc. A bag of compost should fit neatly under the table. That's really all I need.
DeleteYour fence and enclosed garden space is lovely. Designing planting spaces will be great fun. A few dwarf conifers and a trellis with a climber would be some of my choices. Will you have a veggie space too? The garden centers are open in my area as well and it is great to see others enjoying the plants, without a mask. The back pain is specially hard given your high energy and many interests. I wish your doc could fix this!!!
ReplyDeleteThere may be a couple of dwarf conifers at the front of my annexe to define my 'front garden' space but not in the back.
DeleteThe area directly behind the cement mixer in the top photo is going to be planted with an apple tree, some shrubs and a small selection of my favourite flowering plants. The area in front of my 'soon to be built' shed, hidden from sight at the end of the annexe will be where my raised planter is going for my small selection of 'have to have' vegetables.
Alan didn't want a garden that needed any maintenance but I have persuaded him that some greenery and colour is necessary, so I am trying to keep the majority of it very simple and easy to look after.
Oh yes, it was so nice to be at a garden centre once again. I feel a real urge to go back but I have to hold fire for a short while ... until the soil is delivered at least :-)
What a lovely neighbour you are, Sue, no wonder they were pleased with the finished fence. It's all looking great.
ReplyDeleteWe are all happy with it 😃
DeleteSeems like a really good product! Sometimes fences can be very ugly, but yours is actually pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt is a good quality one, and I actually like their side better than ours, even though it is supposed to be the back.
DeleteIt is all really shaping up very well! I love that fence and how it gives you an attractive background for whatever you decide to do with the space. I thought I recognized your new home on John's blog - good choice of a window picture!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's not quite the 'lovely view from the window' that most of John's entries are 😀🤣
DeleteOhhh. the fence looks wonderful. Things are moving right along.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It's all coming together ... phew 😃
DeleteYou can see from above there is more room you have back there.
ReplyDeleteThere's enough space for us and the animals, I'm happy with it 🙂
DeleteThe new fence looks good, another step to getting things the way you planned, it would be fine to purchase any plants while you wait for soil as they can acclimatise to your place for a while.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are all sat on the patio in their pots 😀
DeleteYour home is coming along lovely, every thing is neat and fresh and simple. Just what I like. x
ReplyDeleteIt's taking shape at last 😀
