Lesson from Autumn ... and Apologies

Oh, I love Autumn it's my favourite season of the year.

I mean what's not to love, you can eat all of the comforting food, wear all the snuggliest of jumpers.  Tuck your jeans into your boots and kick your way through the fallen leaves.

I don't mind that I occasionally feel cold, I would much rather be cold and be able to add another layer of clothes than be hot and be able to do little about it. I think I do need to get some warmer slippers as cold feet aren't quite so enjoyable, but it's nice to have my boots and winter shoes back in the wardrobe along with my warmer winter coat.

Oh, and my hot water bottles have already seen daily action ... I do love a hot water bottle. 😃

The dogs don't like getting their feet wet when it rains and they hate being towelled dry after a rainy walk, so I guess now it's time to dig out their little jackets for the wettest of days.  It's okay for Ginger, he just stays indoors on the colder, wetter days and only follows for a dog walk on days when the weather is more to his taste.

I won't be posting as much on here for this month as I've been posting every day on my other blog as my Modern Wartime Ration Challenge started last week and it will be too much for me to be able to keep both blogs going while I am also trying to visit Mum as much as possible in the hospital and keep things going here while Alan is intermittently working away.

So, apologies in advance if you get here and nothing has changed.

Sue xx

  1. No apologies needed - sounds like you have a lot going on at the moment.
I love that autumn poster and the quotes, it is a lovely time of year and although winter can feel rather long in the UK - it's not here yet!

    1. No, we have a couple of months of Autumn before winter sets in thank goodness ... and even then I prefer winter to summer!!

  2. Those three little faces melt my heart, especially Mavis. I can see her tail wagging in this picture.

    1. They are a lovely little trio aren't they. I hadn't noticed the blur of Mavis' waggy tail until you pointed it out. It's nearly always on the go. :-)

  5. I'm with you totally. Adding an extra layer or two is far better than unrelenting heat. Warm slippers are essential too. Like you, I love the Fall and even the Winter. Your pups and Ginger are adorable. They look straight to the camera and take a lovely photo.

    1. Oh, I hate a hot house. Alan is welcome to his and he usually remembers to put on a fleece when he comes into mine :-)

Oh, they don't always look straight into the camera, for every photo you see on here of any of them there are usually about 10 deleted ones on my camara. I don't know why they were all staring at me on this day, I was only drinking my coffee, but I couldn't resist getting a quick photo of them.

  6. I absolutely agree with you, I much prefer the cooler weather to the very hot weather we have had this year. Snuggling up here too with a lovely bit of knitting and a mug of tea ;)
Gorgeous pet photo, Sue, they look so sweet!
Don't worry about lack of posts on here, we are all busy following your Ration blog right now!

  7. You ~never~ need to apologise and should only publish a new post when YOU feel like it.

I am loving the onset of Autumn this year, although I adore being as hot as possible and quietly admit to enjoying the heatwave whilst it lasted. I am a little glad that Summer has finished and the endless imperative of "get outside!, do the garden!!, go away!!!, make the most of the sunshine!!!!" has morphed gently into wrapping up warm and going out to kick up piles of leaves which was this morning's activity 🍁 🙂 🍂 .

    1. I know, but I also know the disappointment of liking a blog and having it in your morning reading schedule and it remaining the same when previously it was updated every day.

I know exactly what you mean, at last it feels as though nature has given us permission to take things slower and hibernate just a little.

  11. I'm sorry to hear that your mum's in hospital, Sue. I hope she gets well soon.
Love that photo of your adorable menagerie.
As a summer lover I'm no fan of Autumn - I'm never happier when I'm wandering around barefoot with the heat of the sun on my bare flesh. Dark mornings and evenings, huge spiders and having to wear lots of clothes aren't for me but I shall embrace your poster and try harder to enjoy it! xxx

    1. She's slowly getting back to normal, now the hospital staff just have to sort out all the 'normal' problems before she will be allowed home.

We are complete opposites of the spectrum aren't we, and that's what makes the world such a happy place. Oh, and I don't like the bloody big spiders either, I have just about got used to catching and releasing them via the jug and cardboard method. But they still give me the horrors.

I'm glad your Mum in improving slowly. May that continue and speed up. xx
