This was my kitchen on Saturday morning, moving in day ... not finished and with the wrong sized worktop having been ordered it won't be completely finished until the next order turns up. I have a temporary oven ... which I won't be using but it does mean that all the electrical parts have been tested etc so at least we know my oven should work when it arrives. By tonight I will at least have a usable sink and my washing machine can be used, taking the pressure off Alan's. I'm not happy, but I do know it will be worth it in the end I just have to grit my teeth and actually get to the end.
Just out of interest would you use an oven that has been used by lots of other people, especially when you don't eat meat and have no idea of what might have been cooked in there in the past?
Luckily I have my nice new Remoska to tide me over and my microwave once I fetch it from the flat.
I love the colour scheme of the kitchen, and seeing the Smeg alongside the units it no longer looks humungous and out of place in it's setting. So all is not lost 😀
The whittling down of the kitchen appliances and accessories will be ongoing as I place things into their final resting places, I really do not want the few cupboards that I have to be crammed with stuff that I could actually live without quite happily.
So we are currently in that chaos that is moving into a new place, you know the one, where everything we need is somewhere else and usually inaccessible. but you know eventually you will get there, it's just that something in your brain says it should be happening NOW, RIGHT AWAY ... and I'm getting remarkably good at ignoring that. 😄
But bit by bit we are getting things straightened out and today while Alan worked up in his office struggling with the hit and miss Wi-Fi ... which it turned out was due to EE having us on a phone tariff instead of a dongle tariff, for the last year ... I managed to get both our televisions tuned in and connected to the Freeview boxes, changed some addresses and generally emptied boxes and found things that we really needed, simple things like soap dishes, dish cloths, phone chargers, the dogs new ID discs.
Now I need to sit back and reax for a while, waking up at 5am each morning due to my aching back means I am missing out on my usual 8 hours of sleep a night ... and boy do you want to keep away from me when I get this tired, even I get scared of my own company!!
Sue xx
How annoying about the kitchen things, but it is looking lovely all the same, Sue. What colour is it? In the top pic it looks green, but in the next one down more off-white. As for using a second hand oven....no, I wouldn't be keen either, unless it was one we knew the provenance of (i.e. a relative or friend giving us one). We've got rid of the cooker in our caravan and bought a new one - mostly because it was very old, but also it was pretty filthy and I didn't fancy cleaning it! You'll soon get sorted, Sue - I know how frustrating it is though when you have piles of 'stuff' all around you that needs to be put away, and you wish you could wave a magic wand and it would be done (if only!). I'm in a similar position at the caravan, it's driving me nuts - but it's nowhere near the scale of your stuff! xx
ReplyDeleteIt's a soft green, the colour does look different from various angles as the light hits it from the Velux window above.
DeleteIt sounds like you are working really hard at the caravan, but it's all coming together now isn't it. You should manage a few months of relaxing timed there. Well deserved relaxing time. 😀
Thanks Sue - although we're hoping to actually stay over this coming weekend, and several more stays there over the coming weeks, we'll still be working on the van! It'll be a while yet before we can sit and relax.....although it'll be lovely to relax in the evenings and not have to go home.
DeleteI really love the colour of your kitchen, Sue, but how frustrating that the wrong size worktop arrived. I would have been really annoyed too and, NO, I wouldn't use the oven either! The thought of meat being cooked in it before I used it would put me off completely. I've warned G that certain things will not be cooked in my new oven at the next place ;)
ReplyDeleteI've moved into three houses over the years where the oven has been left and I've been unable to afford a new one. I've got professional oven cleaners in and I've been happy with the results. But that's just me - I can see, if your're vegetarian or vegan, it could be an issue! Whole annexe looks lovely, by the way. Fiona x
ReplyDeleteYes, I did that at the flat as the oven there was disgusting when I first moved in. But this is just a borrowed oven from the kitchen fitters so that the kitchen could be installed even though my oven hasn't arrived yet. It will be swapped over in a couple of weeks, so it's not worth getting it cleaned. It would only take a good wipe out anyway but I'm just not going to bother as I have alternatives, and of course there's also the hot plate that I can use. That will be working by tomorrow. 🙂
DeleteIt looks lovely Sue. I always find as you settle in a new home you move stuff from here to there until it feels right. Love the shade of the green kitchen.
ReplyDeleteYes, I definitely do that. Onc things have found their 'right' place I'm not one for moving things around, but until they do there will be a lot of playing around 😃
DeleteHa Ha...scared of your own company.;)
ReplyDeleteLooks very very close and the colors are so restful.
You are so close. Glad for you.
I'm a proper grump when I'm tired or hungry 😩
DeleteI spy your purple couch!
ReplyDeleteHaha ... yes it's there peeking round the corner 😀
DeleteI have moved many times, best idea is to put everyday essentials into a few separate boxes. When unpacking everything just put as near as you can to where they were...at least gives you a fighting chance of finding things 🤣😂
ReplyDeleteI'm usually so good at doing just that, but I think this being a double move has complicated my best efforts. We have a mix of things at the flat, things in the storage locker and things here. Remembering what is where is like a bad quiz show 🤣🤣
DeletePacking, moving, unpacking and organizing to get it right is never a small task. Your kitchen looks great and it must feel good to be moved in.
ReplyDeleteIt feels good to have got here at last, it seems to have been going on for so long. 😀
DeleteYou are in and now able to work at your own pace and get things done just the way you want.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yes I can breathe a sigh of relief now. ❤️
DeleteHappy for you and cannot wait to see the final kitchen and your arranging of things.
ReplyDeleteI should be able to fill the wall cupboard and shelves tomorrow, then it will start to feel like mine 😀
DeleteI think you have to expect a little chaos when you first move into a new home. Bit by bit it will all come together. Since you have had so much trouble with your back I would get the most pressing and necessary things done and then take your time with the rest. You want to feel well enough to enjoy your beautiful new home!
ReplyDeleteAs far as used ovens, when I was much younger and rented homes I had no choice about used appliances. But luckily every place I lived had strict requirements about thorough cleanings before a new person moved in. Since we bought our home over 40 years ago we have always had new appliances.
I see that lovely couch too. I can't wait to see more! You take care and be careful to not overdo!
Oh yes I expected chaos, it's not as bad as some of my previous moves ... this is my 18th ... at least I don't have small children that need looking after while I get everything done 🤣
DeleteI love my couch, and it's comfy too ... result. ❤️
It looks fantastic, your kitchen, even in its unfinished state and I just love the colour of the units. As those old sandwich boards used to say - The End Is Nigh - and you will get finished. Suddenly you will find it is almost all done.
ReplyDeleteLoving the couch too.
xx
I spy that lovely purple settee. The kitchen is looking good! I'm amazed how quickly you and Alan get things done, we've been here 16 years and there's still missing skirting boards and crumbling doors!
ReplyDeleteI left home at 18 and, being virtually penniless, made do with everything in the succession of houses I rented, scabby mattresses, dodgy cookers with wires instead of knobs and filthy ovens(I'm a lifelong vegetarian), an ancient twin tub washing machine, even a Soviet-made fridge with a door that had to be held in place by a chair! Travel and socialising was always a priority so I was almost 40 when I bought anything new for the house we live in now. I think I've only become a homebody since lackdown! xxx
Glad you're finally in. You'll be in, in, when everything is in its place. Take care of your back, most things can wait a while.
ReplyDeleteIt has taken a lot of work but the results will look terrific! Hope your back improves and stays improved! You and Alan have put together your own spaces but still share your lives. At first I was confused but it sure seems to work nicely for you both. Best wishes in your new homes.
ReplyDeleteI use my Remoska every day, and think that I could almost, but not quite manage without an oven.
ReplyDeleteSlangry--sleep deprived anger. Been there and have the t-shirt.
ReplyDeleteKitchen colour is charming and calming. Missing countertop--not so charming. I'm in the midst of two bathroom renos--one usable and almost complete (a few things on the punch list) including the correct vanity top/sink, so I know exactly how you feel. Wasn't my contractor's fault--the vendor made this top in the same granite as ordered for the hall bathroom--just not the colour I ordered for the master bath. But at least we can use it for now. The hall bath has all the tiling (wall/floor) completed, but otherwise it is completely empty. Holiday this week, so no workers around at the moment. Not the last of work to be done either--all interior and exterior doors (including all closets--15 in all) will be replaced once the bathrooms are finished and then main areas of the house will be painted and new fixtures installed. Definitely a work (aka chaos) in progress--so I greatly sympathize with you. It is almost like moving, but without leaving the house. It means packing up stuff, piling boxes in different rooms and then moving them again and again as each space requires work. Seems a bit endless at the moment. But this too will pass. Hope the back cooperates for you as you search for things. And hope the kitchen counter shows up soon.
Things will migrate to where they belong in good time. Right now, it sounds like the most important thing is making sure you get that 8 hours of sleep. For the sake of everyone around you. :D
ReplyDelete...and I totally missed that purple settee and had to go back for a look.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors. Everything looks so clean and bright
