Back Soon

Just popping on extremely briefly as I am about to run out of charge in my laptop, mostly to thank those of you who have, for the comments and emails enquiring about my back.  OUCH is all I have to say about my back ... or words slightly more offensive along with some deep groans.

I am really out of action at the moment and trying desperately to 'get back to normal' in any way that I can.  With this in mind we called to the house this morning to take some measurements for curtains and then went onto Dunelm to get Alan some curtains.  His choice of colours are his and his alone ... and that is all I am saying on the matter.  Although I did after some slight persuasion encourage him to buy some really beautifully patterned curtains with touches of green and purple in them instead of the plain purple ones he was going to buy to go in his purple and white room.

I can cope with being in the car on the motorway, it's mostly lovely and smooth even with Alan driving (!!)  but the potholes in the roads of this bloody town are to be felt to be believed, ironically it was the subject of discussion on the local Facebook page yesterday with the road we have to use to get to the new house being cited as one of the worst in the area .... trust my luck.

I'm just off to do this while my laptop re-charges .... yeah right!!

😄😂😆😳😰

  1. Oh I would have joined in with that exercise, having a bad back also....but I haven't got the necessary outfit 😂😂. Hope your back begins to improve soon, Sue - miserable and a bloody nuisance isn't it? X

    1. It really is a nuisance, so much to do and I can only stand for short periods ... sooo annoying and frustrating ☹️

  2. Thank you for posting. I was worried about you. I have a bad back and completely understand. Take care of yourself and do whatever you have to do to feel better. I don't normally drink, but when my back spasms get too bad, I do have a shot of Amaretto on ice. Works better than muscle relaxers from the doctors and doesn't make me loopy all day! Only once a month or so, but it really helps.

    1. I've found that an ice-pack on my back and a glass of wine in the evening (along with my tablets that do actually say NOT to have any alcohol) does actually make for a more bearable few hours. Numbing angry nerves seems to be the way forward. Hey ... whatever works eh ;-)

    1. It is, I should put up a before and after of the front of the actual houses. Things are starting to look so much better now that the skips have gone.

    1. Any major manipulation is out of the question at the moment as I have nerve damage that needs to heal. The physio is working out well and alongside some slight manipulation and massage, is teaching me so much about back pain in general.

  8. You have my sympathies over your bad back. Mine always plays up in the same place and the moment it kicks off, I book myself in with my brilliant Chiro, who soon sets me to rights again.

I thought Herefordshire was the worst place for potholes in roads - it seems it has a rival.

    1. Yes, my back has been 'bad' in the same area for the last 30+years, once I am over this episode (which is the worst ever relapse) I am going to learn some exercises to specifically strengthen my core muscles and back. Rather perfectly my physio's wife runs one to one sessions of Pilates from the same practice in our town as well as classes that I could join. Hopefully her being able to see my notes will help her tailor some good exercises for me.

    2. That's great. I know my core muscles are very week (we've stopped doing antique fairs so no regular lifting and carrying!) and so I will have to crack on in the garden and get everything stronger again. Hopefully the Pilates will get you sorted out.

    3. P.S. Wine is the best muscle relaxant I know of!!!

    1. Yes, physiotherapist once a week and tablets from the doctor. I'm trying to sort things out for the new place in very small bursts of activity. Yesterday for instance I bought a comfy chair from Dunelm that I will be using for my breakfast table at the new place, so I will assemble it and then wait sat on it while the delivery guys make their way to me with my new Smeg ... oh happy days.

  12. Put a pillow between your legs at night if sleeping on side and under your knees if sleeping on back. It helps alleviate the pain. Hope you get better soon. Hope your hubby is recovering well from his DVT.

    1. I can't sleep on either side, or my back or my front ... so ALL the pillows are behind me!!

Yes Alan is fine after his DVT, he's still on blood thinners though and will be until told by the doctor to stop them.

  13. Good to hear you are absent because of your back still and nothing else. Hope it gets a bit easier soon for you to get about. There is often not much you can do other than sit it out until the muscles relax again. Take care - will wave from M6 as we pass Garstang on our way home soon. x

    1. Yes the physio's advice is to keep taking the pills (muscle relaxants and painkillers) from the doctors, mostly sit on my supportive armchair but with movement and walking around the flat every 15 minutes or so, and at least one activity that pushes me slightly each day. It seems to be working ... slowly.

I'll wave from the doorstep, have a safe journey home, the M6 was very busy yesterday. xx

  14. Poor you. I like Ann's suggestion of a muscle relaxant!!

    1. The muscle relaxant tablets do seem to help, the one day I missed a dose I really felt the difference, but yes I've found Ann's suggestion of a little tipple is the cherry on a very soothing cake :-)

  15. So very sorry to hear that you are still in pain, Sue, I have been thinking about you and wondering if that was somehow keeping you from posting. Thanks for the update. I have some news to impart soon....
Praying that you feel better very soon. Keep up the exercises! Love the crop top and leggings 😄 x

    1. Haha ... if only eh!!

Yes I can't sit at the bureau where I usually work, and have only just figured a way of how to use my lap top on my lap with all the necessary things to hand to make blogging as pain-free as possible, whilst sitting on my chair with an icepack against my back. Now it's gone cooler in general I have also got to wear a nice cosy fleece to keep the rest of me warm ... I'd laugh at myself if it didn't hurt so much :-)

  17. Hi Sue hope you feel better soon, a bad back can really bring you down I know. I get a sciatica from time to time and the pain can be unbearable. xx

  18. I too am glad to see you back as it had been so long for you. That's a long time to have a bad back and I really feel for you. That picture of the exercise looks impossible for anyone with a bad back to do. Hope you feel better soon.

    1. Haha .. yes that picture is way beyond the realms of possibility just now, being able to stand up straight for more than ten minutes would be a major achievement at the moment 🤣🤣

  19. I feel very badly about your severe and ongoing back pain. Nobody should feel the pain and discomfort that you experience. A neighbor had severe back pain and was diagnosed with stenosis of the spine. She had a day surgery that she described as a tiny incision and filing a disc/bone to accommodate nerves in the spine. The pain was immediately eliminated and she fully recovered in 3 days with no back problems going forward. Medical science is marvelous.

    1. Sounds like worked out really well for your neighbour, I bet she was so relieved. Medical science is brilliant most of the time.

  20. Like everyone else, was worried about you and figured your back was simply not healing. V. sorry to hear that, when I know how much you would like to be doing more things for your new place. An added aggravation to have pain clouding/storming your journey. Won't offer medical advice...every back is different and only you will know what is working for you and what isn't. Just hope you get relief sooner rather than later. Take care.

One thought for riding in the car--do you have one of those thick, padded angled car seat cushions that has cutout at the back/base where your spine would rest? Might cushion your spine a bit on the bumpy road.

    1. Yes every back is different, as individual as it's owner ... I've well and truly fell out with mine at the moment 🤣

A cushion with a cut-out could be the answer for car journeys.
