I was sat watching a very old Nigel Slater episode the other evening and I found myself watching the sideboard more than the television. Indeed I almost lost myself in the grain of the wood. It's just beautiful old Elm at it's very richest.
The next day the sun came out and illuminated the room in a completely different way and the light highlighted the sideboard totally differently.
So I took another photo
Of course it's not always easy to get a clear shot if you own pets ...

Sorry for the prolonged absence, well it was less than a week actually but folk seem to have been worried. We have been extremely busy with end of year business financials, house-sitting arrangements for our holidays and lots of sorting for a table top sale that we did yesterday, and there has been a death in the family. Not a very close relative, but a much loved one that we lost in a way to Alzheimer's a couple of years ago. It does make you stop and ponder life though doesn't it.

I'm still giggling at the photo-bomber's beautiful tail. Lol, lol. It certainly takes centre stage and I had to really concentrate to study the sideboard.

DeleteSorry to hear of your loss. It's always sad even when expected. Glad you are ok though, I did wonder how you were doing. I do agree that your sideboard is beautiful, the handles look so tactile. Hope you did well at the table top sale.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad but has been expected for a while, he has really suffered as has my poor aunty who had to nurse him all alone through the original lockdown while fighting breast cancer herself.
DeleteWe did really well thanks, we took around £80 and have got some boxes of stuff left that we are thinking of selling as a job lot on Facebook Marketplace.

ReplyDeleteSorry for your loss. I hope memories of happier times brought comfort to the family. I remember that when my Dad died from Alzheimer's, it was so nice to hear the old stories and remind ourselves what a wonderful, loving man he was.
It really is isn't it. Yes, we do have to remember the happier times, of which there were many when we were growing up.

DeleteWhen I saw that beautiful sideboard in the first picture, my eyes were caught by how beautiful it was, the warmth of the wood, the books, the careful setup of the tv and plant, the clock above. Then the tail showed up, a giggle. Just a lovely piece of your own home.

He has his moments, but he'll be getting put into a cardboard box if he keep scratching at my new rug!! Mind you he'd absolutely LOVE that.
