Just a Few Books

On the last post Heather asked me what the books were under my plant on the sideboard, so I thought it would be easiest just to show a photo.

There are a few more on the shelves to the left of the television, and a few more in the cupboard below, which I forgot to photograph!

There's a handful on top of the bookcase in the bedroom.

Here are two of the shelves below that little pile ...

... and here's the best shot I could get of the bottom shelf.

There not much of a gap between the bed and the bookcase, and I'm not that good at manoeuvring at the moment!!

Walking back into the living room I spotted these on the little green shelves.

And then of course there are my favourite cookbooks all waiting and ready for action in the kitchen.

And one final book ... one that was recommended by Margie from Toronto one day last week and that spiked my intrigue straight away.  I thought it would be an ideal book to read just before I start on my not buying year next year.  So that is waiting for me on the shelf above the radiator in the living room.

I do like to have my friends all around me ... have you got your books dotted all around the house or are yours neatly on shelves in a specific space?

Either way I do hope you love books as much as I do ... Sue I know you do  😃

  4. I love books and always have a book on the go. I spotted one I have read recently - Watching You by Lisa Jewell. It was really good. I love Lisa Jewell, her style is so easy to read. I am reading another by her at the moment - Invisible Girl. It's also really good.

    1. Just finished - Invisible Girl. I think it's her best so far. Lots of twists and turns and a very satisfactory ending. I recommend it.

  6. Oh yes, Sue, books-books everywhere! Lots less now since our homeschooling days are over but can you even imagine how many books 25 years of homeschooling produces? I have 3 small-ish 3-shelf bookcases that are filled but otherwise they all fit on two floor-to-ceiling (9 ft ceiling) bookshelves made by my husband. Those are 5 ft wise x 9 ft high and are filled. So yes, I decorate with books too! *haha* ~Andrea xoxoxo

    1. Ooh, I do miss the floor to ceiling bookcase at our Welsh house. ☹️

  7. Just a few books....lol. You'll never be short of something to read, will you?! ;-)

Fortunately, I don't need to keep tons of books now (although I do still buy a fair few in charity shops) - a neighbour and I swap books all the time, when I've read them I give them back to her and she takes them to her Mum's residential home.

    1. Never 🤣

I couldn't imagine not keeping old favourites, as well as being there ready to read again they make a home look more interesting and cosy.

  8. I am not a book buyer as I am too cheap! I am a big library user, tho, so always have a pile that I am reading and often get recommendations from blogs I read. I just finished "West With Giraffes" which I thought was terrific - couldn't put it down!
Do you read your favorites over and over? My problem lately is that I have read so much that I am forgetting what I have read and what I haven't! So I should start a list to keep track...altho it might be a bit late for that... :)

    1. Oh yes, favourites get read again ... and again. There's something very relaxing about re-reading a good book, it's like watching a favourite film again on a cosy, wet afternoon with a big bucket of popcorn 🍿

  9. Are you sure you downsized your book collection!!?

    1. Haha, yes I really have. 😃 Four big boxes went to Ziffit and made me over £150, and one box full that they weren't interested in was placed on the wall outside the flat during lockdown for people to help themselves to.

Maybe it just looks like I have more because they're in a smaller space ... well be that's my story and I'm sticking to it. 🤣🤣

  10. As you know I had to sell or donate most of my book collection before our last move but I'm not ashamed to say that I have accumulated a few more during the 7 weeks since we moved to the bungalow. We have bought a unit for the sitting room which looks great with books on the shelves ☺ I've bought the new Richard Osman and Milly Johnson ones this week. Well....I'm not going anywhere to spend my pocket money am I 😁😉

    1. It really is isn't it. Elaine, and her husband Mark write beautifully don't they. It's like sitting down for a chat. Elaine's blog is on the sidebar and Mark updates it occasionally. Elaine pops up on my Facebook Memories most days as we Shared lots with each other on there. ❤️

  12. I love books. I have 3 book cases on the first floor. 3 book cases on the second. We will not discuss the artfully stacked piles of books on virtually most flat surfaces.

    1. Oh yes, books just cry out to be artfully stacked don't they. I've been known to reach 'toppling over standard' before now, so you can see how restrained I am at the moment. 😃

  13. I went to Waterstones last weekend and although I saw and was tempted by a number of lovely books I managed to come away without buying any. As I am gearing up to buy as little as possible next year I thought I would make a start now. Instead I will re-read a lot of what I already have at home. I did notice though that many of the books on the shelves are mostly in hardback and I have always preferred hardback books - they look so much nicer...but that made it doubly tempting.

    1. Waterstones in Llandudno was my favourite place to be, a browse of the shelves and then a coffee in the coffee shop there meant I rarely left empty-handed ... very naughty!!

I don't discriminate between hard or soft back ...all are welcome 😀

    1. I do have my Kindle books stored on my phone and tablet, but it's not the same. I only read on there in 'book time emergencies', waiting rooms or trains etc. I much prefer an actual book in my hand ... I'll never be a true minimilist will I 😃🤣

My Dad and my younger son were/are members too. It would have been rude for it to have skipped a generation wouldn't it 😀

  16. What a splendid collection of books.
I'm afraid mine are all over the place and I really do need to do a sort out.
Currently I'm re-reading an old favourite, the Merlin Trilogy by Mary Steward but I am looking forward to starting the new Richard Osman book on Boxing Day.

  17. I love books too. I can't imagine a life without books. I never buy new books although I have bought books on sale, so that is new. I have Eat Green by Melissa Helmsley waiting for me at the library, I am looking forward to perusing her very colourful recipes.

    1. A life without books would be very strange. I feel the lack of paper friends when I go into someone's home that doesn't have a bookcase. My older son owns ONE book, and my sister-in-law NONE!! I despair 😲🤐
