Weekend Watching 2

Sometimes a Saturday morning just has to start with a bacon butty, and these 'No-Pork Streaky Bacon Rashers' from Aldi are a pretty tasty occasional breakfast, and they make the lodge smell gorgeous as they cook ... Alan falls for it every time I cook them and thinks I've gone back to the 'dark-side'.

No little piggies were harmed in the making of this meal ... now why did Spellcheck want to change that to Pygmies?  πŸ˜„πŸ˜†

Half of the pack of the rashers and two slices of bread gave me enough for a tasty breakfast with a few little pieces left over for the dogs, who are convinced that Mum has the real deal and want their share of the bacon breakfast.

And it's nice to eat my breakfast while I'm watching YouTube clips of other breakfast ideas for future days.

And ever since doing the Ration Challenge a couple of times I love parathas and I make them at least a couple of times a month.  Watching them being made here by someone more expert than me was really relaxing.  They are just a layered flatbread by any other name ... and they have lots of names depending on which national cuisine you are visiting.

And it's always nice to have a look at someone else's small living space, in this case over 200sq ft larger than mine.  What is it about small living spaces that intrigues so many of us so much?

Something else I've done this week in-between watching numerous YouTube clips and the second series of Killing Eve on iPlayer, is to sign up for and start playing with this years Jacquie Lawson online Advent Calendar ... possibly the best £3.70 I spend all year.  This years looks as beautiful as last years, and with the room to decorate and all the games to play you can start enjoying it immediately.  I still have last years saved on my computer and I've been playing the games all year when I'm waiting for something to download or just fancy a little play.

I might just go and decorate my virtual Christmas Tree while I wait for the kettle to boil ... it's coffee time.  πŸ˜€πŸŽ„

  1. Those parathas look yummy. But I'm staying off carbs for the present, so trying them will have to wait! xx

    1. I seem to have carby weeks and then real non-carby weeks at the moment. This week has definitely been carb filled. πŸ˜€πŸ€£

  2. Your posts are always so interesting, Sue. I enjoy them. I have always followed Susun Weed... she's a holistic woman who uses a lot of herbs & things for healing. Her motto has always been.... don't eat anything thought-up in a laboratory and manufactured in a factory. If you want something, eat the "real deal" or not at all. So if I wanted bacon, I would eat the actual food... grown organically & made locally. The same goes for milk, cheese, and all the rest. But we all have our various thoughts on such things and I'm glad you share yours. :) ~Andrea xoxoxo

    1. I mostly eat 'real' food, but sometimes it's nice to have a bit of something junky and flavourful.

I would never eat anything that came from a pig or a cow. Once you've lived with pigs, been a neighbour to cows and visited a slaughterhouse there's a definite shift in what you think is acceptable.

  3. I'm looking forward to this years Jacquie Lawson's Advent Calendar! I buy two each year at the end of November, one for me and one as a gift for my daughter-in-law. I still play the one from last year too. I appreciate you telling me about it last year. It is now a tradition for us!

    1. I'm glad you enjoy them. This year's London scene looks very good, but I'll miss the musical gnomes. πŸ˜ƒπŸ€£

    1. There's some good things on there. I even found the NHS YouTube channel for exercises for my back. You never know what you're going to stumble across πŸ˜€

  5. The Jacquie Lawson Calendar is lovely, isn't it. It's become a must-have each year.

I follow Claire on YouTube too. She makes me smile and is definitely inspiring me to keep going with my own use-things-up project.

    1. She's a complete natural isn't she. A breath of fresh air in amongst all the 'influencers'.

  6. I usually enjoy a 'fake-on' butty on Christmas morning. Delicious with just a light spreading of ketchup.
The calendar is beautiful. I'm off to search for it now. X

    3. It is isn't it. I feel a definite need to go back to Paris one day. I always think you need to visit a city twice to really get a feel for it ... or stay for a month, now that would be good πŸ˜€

  8. Thanks for sharing all the links, Sue, I can only describe the eggy toasty breakfast as mesmerizing! It really made my mouth water with it's crispy edges and melting cheesy middle :) No voice over required! Must try that one....
The Jacquie Lawson calendar looks amazing too.
We've only ever been to Paris once and that was years ago. Unfortunately, I can't see us going abroad ever again. Do visit on our behalf and take lots of photos for your blog please !!

    1. At the moment I can't see me being able to get back to Paris either, but hopefully I will be able to have some treatment after my MRI results, then I might be able to walk more than 100 yards. πŸ˜€

  9. The Jacquie Lawson Advent Calendar looks wonderful. It is $5 for those of us in the U.S. I had hoped to visit London in December but the Covid testing hassle and, most important, my unhealthy senior cat, made me postpone the trip. This calendar is the next best thing.

I’m a fan of Never Too Small, also.

    1. It's a bargain isn't it, a lovely Advent calendar and then being able to play the games all year round. I hope your elderly puss is okay. πŸ€—πŸˆ

  10. I had to smile at the last ingredients in your "rashers" - Peach Juice and Orange Juice . . .

    1. Haha ... well I guess at least they're natural ingredients, I don't know who thought they would make something taste and look bacon-y though, I suppose it's the colour more than anything.
