Weekend Watching

Ginger is turning into an avid television watcher, usually it's from the sofa but yesterday he took things to a whole new level and got up close and personal with Cottage Fairy.

I think it will be another sofa day today, just hopping up every now and then to keep things moving but it's grey and very cold outside so me and the animals are going to keep cosy with YouTube, coffee and sweets.

Amy has just posted a new video so that will be my first stop once the kettle has boiled.  Does anyone else find someone they like watching and then have a good old binge-watch.  I've been subscribed to Freakin Frugal for a long time now and it's quite addictive watching the amount of food they manage to stop going to landfill.  Feeding your family for free, now there's a good incentive to climb into a dumpster/skip.  Unfortunately it's illegal in the UK as all supermarket dumpsters are on private property and usually behind locked gates ... drat!!

Yesterday I watched half of the first series of Killing Eve on BBC iPlayer,  I meant to just watch the first one and then got a bit carried away ... oops  😄

Of course there's someone lots of us bloggers know that has got a very popular YouTube channel now ... Frugal Queen.   Called Frugal Queen in France she gives lots of her hints and tips for continued frugal living now that she and Mike have both retired to the countryside.  There are some brilliant recipes shown including this latest one, and with over 10.5 thousand subscribers she's doing really well.

So while I get stuck in with some watching I thought I would share some of what I'm seeing with you, just in case your weekend is looking to be as grey and chilly as mine.

My son is out delivering heavy machinery, so the only thing he'll be watching is the road.😀

Have a great weekend.

  2. Hi, I’m just being nosey but what are the books in the little stack under your plant on the sideboard. Heather

    1. I'll share a better photo of them next time I post. 🙂. They are mostly small/simple living books.

  3. I actually watch a few of those channels myself! I admit that I also like to watch a lot of the Korean ladies who have channels - I find many of them to be very calming but full of lovely ideas for a simple life with good food.
    Enjoy your weekend.

    1. Yes, I watch some of them too. It's really relaxing watching them potter about and make tasty food isn't it. One has a gorgeous cat that Mavis is fixated on. 🐕😍🐱

  4. Ooo, my grandsons would love your son's job as right now they LOVE all things tractor!! They love to name all of the different types of tractors they see (like naming all of the different dinosaurs)!
I binge on Netflix series - "Schitt's creek", "Maid", "Broadchurch", "Great British Baking Show", etc,, etc,!
    Have a great weekend!

    1. He's currently garage foreman for TA but still does the odd big driving job that others don't want to. I can't imagine driving something like that through towns but he loves it .

Netflix is another of my binges. I couldn't get into Schitt's Creek, is it worth persevering past the first episode? I've just finished Squid Game and You.

    2. I do think you have to give Schitt's Creek a couple of episodes. I thought it was pretty funny - wacky, but funny!

  5. You Tube does have an infinite variety of things to watch. I subscribe to a couple myself and find them very addicting!

    1. I'm subscribed to lots, it costs nothing and helps the makers, something lots of folk don't seem to understand. I also usually let the adverts run, it's the least we can do to earn them revenue.

  6. I’ve watched all three seasons of Killing Eve on dvd from my library and can’t wait for season four. Love Jodie Comer!

One of my favorite YouTube channels right now is a 30-something woman from New Zealand, Mini-Mom. She is a real minimalist but her home is comfortable, not austere. I think you’d like it, Sue. She makes all her meals from scratch, too.

    1. Ooh, I didn't realise there was going to be another series. 😃. I'll look out for Mini-Mom, thanks.

  7. The waste from supermarkets and restaurants is appalling isn't it! And a lot of it could be eaten if there was a system to get it to people in need in a timely manner. In our city there are two organisations that are helping. There's a group of young people who run the "Freestore" from a big container we allowed them to park on our church land. They have arrangements with places who give them their left over meals and there is a queue of people waiting every evening, students, people on low wages - no questions asked. Another group called Kaibosh (kai is the Maori word for food) which also distributes left over food. I admire the young people organising and giving up their time in such a generous way.

    1. Quite a few of the dumpster divers I watch donate the excess food they find to Foodbanks and little street 'Pantrys'. Freakin Frugal take their excess to a local soup kitchen, and they donate non-food items to a Vietnam Veterans charity that collects from them.

  8. I really haven't gotten into the YouTube watching, though I have watched a few of The Frugal Queen in France's Vlogs.

    God bless.

    1. It is a bit addictive. I've not watched many of Jane's vlogs yet but she seems to have found a niche, and a way to supplement their pensions doing what she does anyway

  9. No, I'm afraid I don't watch "frugal" YouTube channels. I'm 65yo and could probably put together a frugal channel of my own, with all I've learned in 65 years. *haha* Now I watch art channels. But enjoy your frugal ones, indeed. ~Andrea xoxo

    1. Well I'm only a couple of years behind you but I'm always open to learning more and passing on what I learn on some Facebook groups that I'm a member of. Having lived through truly frugal times bringing up my boys it's nice to be able to help others and keep up to date with what they need to learn. Unfortunately, it seems basic cooking and housekeeping are no longer taught in schools. ☹️

  10. Love the photo of Ginger, concentrating so intently!

I eventually caved in and purchased 2,000 Acres of Sky when a DVD came up at a decent price. Waiting for delivery. It's all 3 series so that should keep me going for much of the winter.

    1. I'm really into binge watching at the moment. Watching one episode of Shetland each week as it's coming out is driving both of us mad ... but it's brilliant!!

    1. It's their favourite afternoon spot. I think Ginger realised he was missing out on cuddles sitting so close to the television. 😃🤣
