Safety First ... and Tomatoes

With our little narrowboat holiday fast approaching I decided to order the dogs a life-jacket each.  Now I'm sure Mavis would swim and stay afloat long enough to get to the canal bank and give us time to rescue her, but Suky would sink like a lead balloon!!

They were literally in the air like this for 10 seconds but we did have to check the fixings were working properly and that they were comfortable if we had to hoick them out of the water in an emergency ... and of course being a Blogger I had to get a photo.  😉

Mavis is seen here modelling a snazzy orange life-jacket.

While Suky is resplendent in a rather fetching lime green.

You can almost hear them saying to each other ... WTF is going on!!

In Ration Challenge news ... late last night I was sent this to pass on to you and all the lovely folk that have donated to my Fundraising page, it was on an email telling me that I had gone over the threshold that earns me a tin of tomatoes.

But much more importantly it means that between us we have now provided enough money to feed more than FOUR refugees for A WHOLE YEAR.  I eat rations for one week and we can do this ... we are a great team.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  💖

Our total currently stands at £734.

  1. The consequences of you NOT buying lifejackets just do not bear thinking about. However clever Suky and Mavis might be, this will be completely new to them and anyone can fall off a boat and into a canal (no need to ask me how I know that!)

    1. For the minimal expense I would rather they were safe. Of course they will always be under control and on leads when we are on the move, but better safe than sorry ... as it sounds like you found out!

  2. Good the pets will be safe on your boating holiday. You might bring a sturdy pad for the bed or a good fold up chair for relaxing - I wonder about your back...

    1. There are memory foam mattresses on the beds, which I found to be so good on the Spain holiday that I bought a memory foam mattress topper for my bed at home. And there are lots of comfy chairs on the boat including fold up ones and cushions to use outside. Everything has been thought about on this luxury boat, the list of things on board is HUGE ... it's possibly going to give Alan a shock if he does decide to renovate a boat and I keep pushing for all mod cons ;-)

  3. Our first grand dog fell in a full lock, just as we were driving in, lucky not to get squashed. She was hoicked out by her harness just in time.

    1. Oh gosh, locks can be SO dangerous. I bet you were really shocked ... and her too!! Thank goodness we have no locks to navigate, that's one worry out of the way.

    1. I was surprised at how comfy they found them, Suky used to HATE wearing anything.

  6. The dogs look very stylish in their new jackets and it's much better to be safe than sorry. When we lived in the park home we were alongside the canal and used to walk there regularly. We once witnessed a black lab falling in with a tremendous splash and the owner quickly hoiked him out with his strap. We were more shocked than the dog!

    1. When our Chug called Charley was a pup, she once ran right into the Kennet and Avon canal. She mistook the green algae for grass, luckily we were right next to her and could have reached her, but her adrenalin kicked in and she was able to scramble out herself very quickly.
