Not Using the Stuff

Another weekend, another car boot sale, this time in Tal y Bont which is a few miles along the road from us.  We were selling lots of the stuff that was previously in cupboards, on shelves and most definitely no longer needed by us.

We did really well, and made a grand total of £158.50.  The heat took it's toll though and we were both exhausted by the time we got home at 3.30pm,  But the truck was much lighter and now I have a couple of empty boxes and lots of empty hangers to fill ready for next time.

The dogs came with us and lay in the shade of the truck, and thanks to a very naughty Daddy they enjoyed a whole ice cream cornet to themselves.

As well as being the car boot sale this month it was the Annual Bike Show, with bikers from all over the area turning up on their large and not so large motorbikes.  Competitions were had and raffle tickets drawn.  The ladies in the Memorial Hall cafe sold out of bread rolls for the bacon and sausage buns that were for sale and someone had to be sent out for fresh supplies to keep the bikers and car booters fed.

All in all it was a good day ... and it was nice to see blog reader Gill and her hubby Mike again.

  1. I don;t think Tess has ever tasted ice cream - better not to start I guess.

    1. Ha! That's reminded me of a friend, when I was buying food for my new kitten years ago. "Don't ever let them try the cat milk that comes in little cartons. Mine now won't drink anything else - expensive!".
Sue, I'm in awe of the energy you are putting into these car boot sales, especially in this weather.

    2. This is the first time ours have ever had a full cornet. They've had a bit on a finger or the tail end of the cornet with a bit of ice cream pushed into it. I didn't really approve of the amount they got. When Alan came back with the large cornet I assumed the majority of it was for him!!

Veg artist ... tell your friend to try her cat with normal UHT milk, it's pretty much all 'cat milk' is.

    3. I used to make up a weak chicken stock and freeze it as large ice-cubes for our previous dog who loved to crunch them up during hot weather.

    4. The 'cat milk' conversation was about 30 years ago! Our current cat drinks semi-skimmed, same as us (plus water, inside and out).

    1. That's a lovely idea :-)

Yes one of the local pubs to my Smaller Life has a dog bar that is a beer keg with little buckets and bowls of various sizes for different sized dogs to use.

  3. Hi Sue, I think that you have turned into my 'Personal Shopper' as the items you put in front of me are exactly what I'm looking for, or to be more precise, maybe I didn't know I was looking for them until I saw them!

  4. I am currently filling up a box kept by the front door of items that I hope to sell at our Building's Fall "Garage sale" - there wasn't much notice for the one held last month but we've been given a heads up for one at the end of August so I'll be ready!

    1. That sounds like a brilliant way to get together some things to sell.

It's pretty much what I do at home too, I have an empty box in the spare bedroom during car boot season and any little bits and bobs get put in there ready for the next sale. I price everything up the day before so it's ready to put out on the table.

  5. And don't you feel lighter when you get rid of items that are just filling space? My Mom is dreadful at feeding our dog treats, especially ice cream (I expect he would say she's wonderful), but it's quite exhausting being the 'treat police'as he has a dodgy stomach!

    1. Haha, that's exactly the way I feel 'the treat police' or spoilsport mummy. But sudden treats especially when they are that big really do upset their tummies. AND of course it took me two years of being super vigilant with Suky's diet to get her down the 3.5kg she needed to lose in weight, it's a bit upsetting to see her being fed so many unnecessary calories.

  6. Win win situation for you and your customers. Lovely photos as always and I'm a big fan of Joshua Becker:)
