Snippets of Home - 3

If this was a real estate agents tour of our home you would all be fast asleep by now waiting for the next leg of the tour!!  We've looked at the downstairs and now, due to popular demand we are going to venture up the stairs to see what's going on up there.

We put the little gate at the bottom of the stairs when we first moved in, it's just to stop the dogs from going upstairs if we don't want them to. They are allowed upstairs of course, but we just like to be able to control when.  Suky for instance loves to move from dry surface to dry surface after having a bath so she would be straight up there to roll around on the beds if we let her.

Ginger of course just squeezes through, and goes wherever he wants to much to the annoyance of the dogs.

This is taken from the little landing area halfway up the stairs.

The tiny hallway that leads to all the rooms.

The doggy doorstops that sit outside closed doors and on the landing are to stop Ginger from scratching up the carpet corners, a very naughty habit of his.

The first door leads you into the spare bedroom, it's a really good sized double.  We also use this room to store things and to dry washing on the airer and to do the ironing … what little there is of it that we actually do.

In here we also have a little television and I come up here to watch DVDs when Alan is watching something I don't like ... sport, action films or violent American series for example.  It isn't connected to anything outside the house so I can't watch any television, but I actually like it this way.

As you can see we currently have a few things stacked up ready to go back to the Van next month.

The second door along is our room, which is a really good size for a small cottage.

Our bed is a king-size one and it fits neatly in the space opposite the built in wardrobes, added we think, by the last owners.  These and the little cupboard with the green door make good use of the alcove spaces either side of the chimney breast and give us all the clothes storage that we need.

Our log burner in the living room is directly below here, and the whole wall warms up nicely giving some warmth to the room on cold Winters nights.

We have mismatched bedside tables because if I had one the same size as Alan's the bedroom door wouldn't close.  So the one that used to be mine is actually in the spare room with the television stood on it and I have a sort of little telephone table/bookshelf unit which works fine for me and my books.

I just love this little green door and the framed limited edition print beside it.

I also love my 1930's sketch of a Pug by my side of the bed.

A sneaky peek into the working centre of our home.

Our house is also the business address for our Limited Company, and as such Alan is usually to be found in here anytime he's not working down South.  I used to share the office space but now it's proving very impractical to keep moving things around, so when I'm not at the Van I can be found blogging or working on my laptop at the breakfast bar in the kitchen.

Alan is rarely alone up there though, and a little doggy bed means that whoever chooses to keep him company can snooze in comfort.

The final room upstairs is the smallest room of the house.

The upstairs toilet, a godsend in the wee small hours of darkness when you just have to go.  When this was out of action for the first couple of years of us living here that trek downstairs meant you were fully awake before staggering back to bed!!

Rather weirdly this does not have frosted glass so a good thickness of net curtain was called for here!!

And that's it the completed tour of the inside of the house.

I hope you've enjoyed your little peak into our home here in Wales.  I've just been outside taking photos of the exterior and some of the areas around the house now that we've had the house fixed and re-painted.  So I could show you those if you are interested.

The white UPVC windows, doors, under the conservatory overhang and the black facias and soffits have all been cleaned by a specialist company who also unblocked and cleared all the gutters and drainpipes ready for us putting it on the market in the next few weeks.  So it's all looking lovely and fresh out there, not like the weather ... which is grey and overcast and decidedly January like.

    1. It's looking pretty similar outside to how it did before, just a bit fresher and the white is A LOT cleaner :-)

We kept to the same colour scheme as before after the re-rendering as the back walls didn't need doing just the front and side, so it made sense to stay with the grey colour to try and keep the costs down a bit.

  5. You have a lovely home, I do like the green theme throughout, our home has an orange theme which I love. I noticed your Orla Keily bag, we have a lot of her design in our home, the stem range in the kitchen and lounge and a couple of other designs in two bedrooms, I would love more but it is rather expensive. What a godsend your upstairs loo is, I could never make it downstairs for a tinkle , another delight that age brings !!!

    1. I love a lot of Orla Kiely designs, but as you say the things with them on are usually very expensive. The bag you see in the spare room is actually a Tesco £4.50 bag. I do like to treat myself when a designer adds to the Tesco long life bag ranges. So much better than carrying a bag emblazoned with Tesco on it. I have another in a different design too.

  6. Oh another door, I love your doors and I love the little touches of green through out the house. Whoever buys you house can move straight in, there is nothing that needs to be done. Helen S.

    1. Haha … someone like me who can enthuse over a little door, I love the littlest doors the most in this house.

Yes, someone will be able to move straight in. We actually had a full survey done and have now righted virtually everything that was thrown up as a problem or potential problem. They will be getting a house and land with a clean bill of health. The gardeners are due to move in the first week of February to get everything on the land under control ready for estate agents photographs at the end of the month.

  7. Thank you!

And of course, more pictures!!!! Silly Girl, of course more pictures! -smile-

I do hope it sells quite quickly, and it should.

Wondering where you are going to move to? I don't think I have seen that, since I began reading here.

    Again, thank you.

    1. Haha … your wish is my command :-)

We are hoping to re-locate to Garstang in Lancashire, which is over the border and back into England. This is near where my beloved Van is situated, is the town I have loved since being a small child and has proved to be the ideal location for visiting all of our family who are dotted around in Lancashire, Cumbria and over the next border in Scotland and it has all the things nearby that we know and love … and that will be easier for us as we get older.

  8. What a lovely and warm place you have. I'm almost sorry you're selling it but I know you're ready for a change. Best of luck with that and thank you for the tours.

    1. One of the things I find hard about this house is that it's TOO WARM!!

We have a loft full of insulation and the Aga on 24/7 so it really is a cosy house, and with the log burner lit at night it's all we need. When Alan switches on the central heating ... because he seems to be a colder body than me ... it gets very hot. I am literally sat here in the kitchen with the conservatory door open as he has obviously just flicked the switch again! And no I am not having a hot flush … haha.

  9. It's a treasure of a house and I can't imagine anyone seeing it and not loving it.
Yes, I'd really love to see the outside of your house, thanks.

    1. I'd love for it to be a quick sale so that we can be cash buyers for the next place. And Spring would be the perfect time for someone to take over the reins of this place ... I am even going to plant up the polytunnel (in a small way) for them as it will be growing season during viewings.

  11. As you say great size rooms in a lovely Welsh hillside cottage. I can't see you having any problems selling. Good luck with it all. I'd love to see the outside too.

    1. Yes we do have a couple of good sized rooms, and this also helps to make it very light and bright … when the grey clouds move away of course ;-)

  12. I’ve loved the tour of your home and should imagine it’ll sell in no time! Will you go for a cottage again when you downsize?

    1. We are keeping very open minds about the next place. As long as it is ready to move into without any structural work, it has a small garden for the animals and for me to grow some veggies, and either two bedrooms or one bedroom and an office space that's the only real requirements. It can be a cottage, a terraced house, a ground-floor flat or a bungalow, or maybe even a park-home with full year round usage.

  13. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour of your beautiful cottage - thank you. The green theme that you have throughout is so lovely and I love that little green door too. Looking forward to seeing the outside again. Looks like you are ready to put your home on the market - is it advertised yet? It's been great having a nosy through your beautiful rooms.

    1. I'll show the outside in a day or so :-)

No, it's not being advertised until the end of February, I'll share links when I have them. We have a couple of gardeners doing two weeks work to get the land and fencing fixed and hopefully by then the light will be better for estate agents photos too.
