Something in the Pipeline ... and my Rainy Day Box

So there's something new in the pipeline and to say I'm excited would be an understatement.  I'll tell you all about it when everything is finalised.  There's a bit of paperwork to be done, but once everything is signed, sealed and delivered I can let you know.

We haven't sold the house - don't get too excited!!

Just before all this kicked off an email had pinged onto my phone offering me £4.50 off a £30 shop at Sainsbury's this week.  I only needed a few things really mostly fruit and veg but it seemed too good an opportunity to pass up ... I know ... that's exactly what they want you to think!!  But I thought, I can still make good use of an extra £4.50.

So I decided I would put together another 'Brexit Box', just a few cans and dried things that I can pack away and leave packed away if necessary for a rainy, Brexit-y, Covid-y day.  The earliest date on things I have put into the box is late 2021 so there will be no worries about things going out of date before I have chance to use them.

I added a couple of things that I had picked up from Aldi that I didn't really need now or for a while and it filled the box neatly.

I think I'll just call it my Rainy Day Box  😀

It will be handy that it's all neatly packed in a box if everything comes to pass anyway.

  1. Always a good idea to have some put away as we just don’t know what will, if anything, be short or rise dramatically in price in 2021.

    1. Yes, there has been a lot of talk about prices rising in the new year. Once this 'thing' has come to pass I might build up a bigger box of food to stash away ... just in case :-)

  2. Ooh, intriguing!

We've stocked up, I'm confident we'll be ok for a few weeks if the sh*t (Brexit or Covid) hits the fan.

    1. Exciting :-)

I should know by next week, so I won't keep you in suspense for too long :-)

  3. Oh, you've got me all excited now!! I'm emptying everything in the hope the house sells quickly when it goes up for sale next month. My store cupboards are full and so is the freezer.

    1. I hope your place sells quickly, with this Stamp Duty suspension things do seem to be moving VERY fast!! You could always pack up some of the tinned and packets of food with the longest dates and then pop the boxes into the same cupboards. Ready for moving or use ... whichever comes first :-)

  4. I'll guess............... you've found a small cosy home or you've sold the flat or you're emigrating to somewhere less wet and windy! (That last one is made up!)

Still OK for loo rolls here. My Crap at the Enviroment delivery of 48 is due in December (if they can get them here from China) and there are still several left in the box from whenever I started - Feb?

    1. Well we haven't sold the house OR the flat, we decided that as long as our current tenant is happily paying his rent on time and wants to stay we will keep it. As soon as he hands in his months notice it will go on the market.

Yes I still have some of my last delivery of loo rolls, so I'll not panic buy just yet ;-)

  5. That's a jolly good idea. We have no way of knowing what will happen next, Sue, so it's best to be prepared for the worst. Hmmm... What will your new challenge be 🤔....

    1. Challenge coming up soon I think, if this 'new' thing doesn't disrupt things too much.

    1. What a pity neither of us where there!!

It should look even neater next weekend after the gardener has been to have an Autumn tidy up and we can finally cut the hedges. There's no hedge cutting in our area until October so the wildlife aren't affected too much.

Thank you we have our fingers firmly crossed still that it will sell soon. If it doesn't we may remove it from the market for Winter.

  7. I think a lot of people will quietly have boxes/shelves like that Sue.
I have one, in case we have to self-isolate it will mean there is far less to try and get delivered.

    1. Yes, I think it is quite important in case we need to self-isolate or just want to stay away from people for a while.

  8. So you are keeping us in suspense Sue.

  9. Every food delivery in lockdown I added a few bits for my 'rainy day' box - coffee beans, olive oil, chick peas, tahini, tomatoes, brown rice, jars of pesto - lockdown or Brexit shambles seems likely, it feels better to be a bit prepared.

    1. It just makes sense doesn't it.

Weeks when I don't need much food I will simply still buy a couple of tins and packets of things that I would usually have bought. While I don't agree with stockpiling as such, and I hate the idea of grabbing everything within reach and leaving the supermarket shelves bare, there is nothing wrong with being sensible and building a little store for Winter.

  12. Such suspense! If it's not selling the house then I can't imagine. I hope we don't have to wait too long!

It is smart to have a rainy day box or even boxes. Covid is getting so much worse here and there is talk of a bad winter coming on top of it, so I have been slowly building up supplies of canned food and other items to get us through the winter if necessary. It's just the smart thing to do I think.

    1. Yes, thinking about it more and more, I do think it's the smart thing to do, it's okay in my opinion if it's built gradually and not on a 'smash and grab' basis. A couple of extras bought here and there and then added together to fill a box.
