Taking a Chance

I decided to take a chance yesterday 😃

A while ago I said I wasn't going to even begin looking for my new home until we had sold the smallholding in Wales and had the money in the bank ... and then yesterday into my email inbox with a loud ping dropped the most perfect little house on Zoopla.

It's in exactly the right location and in a quiet cul-de-sac, it's just the right size and has parking for two cars and most importantly of all a nice little garden for Suky ... well it could be a nice little garden if I can find any earth under all the stones and shingle to lay a little lawn.  There are a few little shrubs to start me off, and raised beds could be put all around the edges.

I've booked a viewing for tomorrow afternoon and Alan has already looked into raising a short-term mortgage on our Welsh house, which would be paid back in full just as soon as we sell.  If it proves to be the one, it will change all our plans considerably.

One thing it wouldn't change would be the name of this blog, because it's still going to be a small and simple life ... as the Van is 432 square feet and the house is just 476 square feet, two floors but still only 44 square feet bigger in total !!

  1. Sometimes, the right thing just suddenly pops up and we have to grab the opportunity with both hands, I firmly believe that. If it's the right thing for you, Sue, you'll know it in your heart and your head will follow.

  3. It is possible to be so safe and sensible and secure that you miss the boat. Like a child who walks away from the edge of diving board.

  15. Fingers crossed this will be 'the one' we just signed contract with the estate agents yesterday, in this area some agents wont let you do a viewing unless your own house is under offer which is proving troublesome, we have gone full circle and forgotten Somerset until we retire and looking locally. Your house find is indeed small, but it won't cost much to heat, take long to clean, the poll tax will be low and you would have a lot of fun getting the garden how you like it. Less is more :)

  18. Good Luck Sue. I'd be interested to know how you feel about it after the viewing - will it be 'The One' I wonder?? Exciting times for you and Alan.

  19. Good luck the only thing I noticed about the layout of the new home is the lack of a GF Toilet. A must as we get older surely!!

  20. Ooh, I feel excited for you! Fingers crossed that it all falls into place. Right now, to us too small is beautiful. The square footage on our park home was 760sq feet and our new home is 680sq feet but with a little juggling we are getting it how we like it. As someone said: it costs less to heat and is quicker to clean :)

  21. But is the cottage also in Wales so that you can keep your caravan on? If not, that small space cottage will have to have 2 occupants full time. Will that possibly be too much to cope with?
Hope the viewing goes well and it proves to be 'The Right Move'.

    1. No, I am not looking to buy anywhere in Wales. The little house is in Lancashire and in my exact chosen location for living, just ten minutes away from where the Van is situated. It would have have had only one occupant ... and a Pug.
