How about a few before and afters:
And here it is again just before we left for home.
The fridge freezer and washing machine are now both in place and working perfectly, there is some food in the cupboards as well as the cutlery and crockery to be able to eat at the flat.
Sunday morning just before we left and the curtains are up and looking lovely, everywhere is clean and tidy and our temporary 'toaster box coffee table' is still in use.
And it would appear that Suky is still supervising goings on!
And two days later with an actual bed, the curtains hung and a new lampshade.
At the moment it just contains the lawnmower, some cushions ready for when we find a sofa, and a new cat litter tray for Ginger, who will be travelling with us whenever we go for more than one night.
And talking of lawnmowers ... once the batteries on our new lawnmower had charged Alan cut the grass, watched over intently by Mavis. The dogs had obviously decided between them that Suky was to supervise the inside jobs and Mavis the outside ones.
And for those of you who like to see actual footage I did a Before and After in video format too, just two very short little clips of live action.
So it was a very successful weekend, the drive home was a bit of an experience with all the heavy rain and standing water on the motorway, but we managed it safely and now we will be seeing if we can source some more of the things we need for the flat from Facebook Marketplace and perhaps charity shops. We aren't buying much just the basics to make it comfortable and easy to use for us and my sons.
If you have any questions I will answer them in the comments of this post.

It's all looking really good, Sue. Isn't it exciting furnishing a new place with a mix of old and new stuff and getting it comfortable and just how you like it? Once we'd done all the refurb work on our static, I so enjoyed kitting it out with stuff and making it our lovely comfy holiday home from home. We did it as cheaply as possible, buying just a few brand new things (a small cooker, microwave and fridge and 2 new beds), some stuff was bought 2nd hand, and other things brought from home. How often do you think you'll use it?
ReplyDeleteWe intend to use it as regularly as work allows us too, working from home means that it will be good to get away ... and NOT take the laptops with us. Also we are letting both my sons and their partners have a couple of holidays in it. They have done a lot of animal sitting and in Simon's case building work for us in the past and it's the only way they will get a free holiday. Well it will be free if they cut the grass while they are there. ;-)
DeleteThanks for showing us the before and after-it’s a lovely flat and it’s great to have outdoor space too. Catriona
ReplyDeleteThe only reason we bought the flat originally was because it had a nice sized garden, it was destined to be our retirement property originally. The dogs love the garden, they miss having grass at home.
DeleteHow nice to have that as a get away place. Love how you are getting it ready for yourselves and family to use. XXXXX
ReplyDeleteHopefully we will get some good use out of it before we put it on the market. :-)
DeleteThe flat looks lovely, a perfect getaway.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see it all freshly redecorated and starting to look like a home.
DeleteLooking very nice Sue.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you, it's a nice little project. xx
DeleteWhat a wonderful bolt hole for you both. It looks really lovely and a perfect place to escape to. Fantastic. xx
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely flat, we originally bought it off plan so we have seen it right from it's conception, and it's so nice to be finally making it our own for a while.
DeleteIt's a lovely transformation. It's such a good idea to get some use out of it for you and your family before thinking of selling it on.
ReplyDeleteI also think it will make it easier to sell if it looks lived in and loved and with some simple furnishings. I'm having fun setting it up anyway.
DeleteLove it - and enjoyed the before and after pics. I hope you have many Happy Times there x
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
Now that Mavis has realised it's not some dangerous place and she doesn't have to sit next to the compost bin all the time, we should all be able to relax when we get there and have some fun times.
DeleteHow long does it take to drive to Shangri-La ? Lesley
ReplyDeleteFrom door to door it's two hours if the traffic is flowing smoothly. We need to get our timings right for our journeys though as the main route into North Wales the A55 gets really busy at holiday times. Coming home on Sunday afternoon took us over three hours due to the heavy rain and slower speeds needed for safety.
DeleteIsn't it fun to gather the things to fill a home a bit at a time, mindfully?
ReplyDeleteDefinintely, now that we have the basics there is no real rush to add things until we find some good bargains secondhand. It also means that it should be a little bit more homely, than say a trip to IKEA or somewhere similar.
DeleteIt looks lovely. Light, airy, and it has a GARDEN! What a great place to unwind. Is it somewhere you might still consider for your retirement? Xx
ReplyDeleteI really don't know if we will retire there, at the moment the plan is to use it ourselves until the property market recovers a bit and then sell it to a local couple or family. It doesn't sit comfortably with me keeping what could be classed as a brilliant starter home for ourselves.
