We decorated the house for Coronation Day with large bunting in the front windows, on my planters at the front door and flags taped to the top windows. There is enough to spare for us to be able to take some to Mum's with us along with mugs for her and my brother as souvenirs of this special day.
This is the first time I will be alive for a coronation, my Mum was 13 when the Queen was crowned so this will be her second. My Nana was alive through six monarchs, although she only obviously saw one live coronation on television and of course as she was born in 1898 she is sadly no longer with us.
So we will be heading off to Mum's armed with the flags, bunting and our Coronation Tea food for a day of celebration and memories. Here in the UK we do these type of celebrations so well don't we.
I didn't make this Coronation Quiche, but mine is a pretty good replica and the homemade scones, dainty sandwiches and alcohol-free bubbly will make it a feast fit for a King.
I hope you all have a wonderful Coronation Day.
Sue xx
Those are attractive mugs
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely, my Mum and brother were thrilled with theirs so it was a good keepsake for a special day.
DeleteLovely to see your preparations, and great that you are sharing it with your mum. I've baked a cake, bought in goodies, we have bunting on the gate, and will be watching TV. Enjoy your day. Love Isabel
ReplyDeleteThank you, it was a good day wasn't it. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.
DeleteNo one does pomp and ceremony like the United Kingdom. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do it very well don't we, and with two ex-military men in the family it makes us very proud to watched the parades and see all the smart uniforms.
DeleteWe watched the whole thing on television with wine and snacks at lunch time and really enjoyed it all. It was spectacular and emotional at times. It must have been amazing for Charles standing on the balcony overlooking the crowds. He has waited so long for this and really deserves it. It was all quite wonderful. We are celebrating again tomorrow with friends with an afternoon tea and wine. It must have been lovely for your mum to have you there with her and the mugs are quite lovely.
ReplyDeleteMum loved it and was very emotional at times, we wouldn't have missed the day for the world. Lots of lovely food, family time and pomp and ceremony at it's finest.
DeleteI've really enjoyed watching it all on TV this afternoon. I've cheered, sung hymns and shed a few tears. I've eaten quiche, salad and drunk a mini bottle of Prosecco while G has been working. Pomp and Circumstance at its best. I hope you all loved it too. Long Live The King!
ReplyDeleteAww ... poor G having to go to work. As we were driving along Mum's road the postman was out delivering the mail and I thought of all the poor souls having to work as usual. Long Live the King indeed. xx
DeleteHope you enjoyed your day and that your mum had many memories brought back to her of Queen Elizabeth's Coronation. She will enjoy you all being there to watch it with her. I made the quiche - broad beans and all!!
ReplyDeleteWe loved it all and to see Mum so happy and emotional was wonderful. So glad that we were able to spend the day together. I do need to try the quiche with broad beans ... I might have to make another one and be brave.
DeleteI have seen replays of Queen Elizabeth's Coronation but need to sit down and watch King Charles's very soon. We were visiting our youngest who only has one television and both Harvey and he were not interested in it at all (I even tried pouting). You really did up the decorations.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
You should make an event of it for yourself, tasty snacks and something to toast the King with. It would be a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
DeleteI'm reading backwards so I know you had a lovely day with your Mum. xxx
ReplyDeleteWe really did. :-)
