We go along the road and then come down the old stone steps at George's Triangle, a lovely little half-tended plot of wild and planted plants by the side of the stone bridge. The bees were already out and about and buzzing around the flowers.
It looks a lovely raggle taggle mess, but the wildlife love it ... and the dogs always have a good sniff.
We enjoyed the walk along the canal back to the house as there were lots of different narrowboats moored along the towpath this morning and it's always nice to see a few different ones. I look at the boats, taking great care not to peer into the windows and the dogs sniff out the bushes and hedges that line the path and we all say hello to anyone we pass.
It was only when I got to the end of series two that I remembered how they left it all up in the air ready for another series ... and then never came back with one. What a shame. The good things get cut off in their prime and the boring and obviously much cheaper to make programmes go on and on and on.
Time to dig out my DVD folder and find something else to sink my teeth into, or maybe I should pick up a book and read for a while instead.

That is a great series, but yes, cut short! Land girls is good too.
ReplyDeleteI've not watched the Land Girls series yet, but I did watch the movie of the same name last week.
DeleteIt's always nice to walk by water, isn't it - I love the mix of plants, wildlife and architecture along a canal - and the boats of course. It's very tempting to peer into the boat windows - they're so conveniently near and at eye level!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice walking by the water, either here at our canal or along the river in town. It's VERY tempting to have a look in the boats but if you glance in while someone is there washing up at the sink and you catch each other eyes, it VERY embarrassing.
DeleteI loved Home Fires also. The screen writer Simon Block wrote a book to finish the story. Keep the Home Fires burning. It is a good read. Best wishes Pam in Texas.
ReplyDeleteOh thanks for that. I do have the book Jambusters that the series was based on, I'll look out for the other one now. :-)
DeleteI too really enjoyed Home Fires and the book Jambusters and will look for the book to see how the story finished. It’s lovely to walk along the canal-there’s something about water that is calming. Catriona
ReplyDeleteIt was a really good series wasn't it, such a shame it wasn't recommissioned. I have ordered the follow on books from Amazon, I just had to. :-)
DeleteHappy Monday - what a lovely walk and start to the week!!
ReplyDeleteIt's important to get some fresh air at the beginning of the week, especially as it wasn't raining for once. :-)
DeleteI haven't seen that series so I will have to look it up. Thanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It's well worth seeing if you can find it. :-)
DeleteLooks like a delightful walk and a perfect start to the day.I watched and enjoyed Home Fires, too, and I was really annoyed when it didn’t return to the screen! Will look out for the book! Sal
ReplyDeleteIt was such a dramatic ending, talk about being left high and dry, I wondered why I hadn't remembered that it just stopped dead in such an annoying way.
DeleteA beautiful walk to begin the week! Have a cozy evening!
ReplyDeleteIt was a good evening thank you. I started watching the first season of World on Fire, it's brilliant.
DeleteLoved the series as well, very disappointing they left us in mid air:( Beautiful walk, looks so peaceful:)
ReplyDeleteThey really left us didn't they, and with the baby crying too ... gosh he or she would be seven years old now!!
DeleteI don't miss much from "down south" except, perhaps, canals. Which is a bit strange, when I have all these beautiful lakes close by!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely morning walk for both you and the dogs. x
You live in a beautiful part of the world, but it's harder to walk all around a lake and so much easier to stroll along a canal and pop up by any of the bridges back onto the road. We used to love going regularly to Windermere and Fell Foot Park when the boys were younger, it was our favourite place during the school holidays. And of course I used to work in Bowness so I could go and eat my sandwiches by the lake ... not so relaxing with all the tourists though.
DeleteA walk along the canal sounds like a great way to start the day! I'm glad you are keeping both blogs current. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a brilliant way to wake me up, one coffee before I go and one when I get back and then I can face the day. :-)
DeleteI'm trying to keep both blogs going, perhaps not both every day but as often as I can.
Just had the 40's week end in Lytham on the Green. Most of the women who were dressed for the event were wearing clothes that I would be happy to wear now! Maybe not the boiler suits!
ReplyDeleteOh I didn't know that was on, it must have been brilliant. I think we are going to Vintage by the Sea in Morecambe in a couple of weeks. I would love to wear a boiler suit ... and of course a scarf around my hair. ;-)
Deletesorry forgot to add it was me Lesley
ReplyDeleteThanks. xx
DeleteHi, I have read your blog every once and a while for years. Our Public TV station has aired Home Fires and Land Girls. I thought both where really compelling. I was disappointed too that both shows where abruptly ended. Best Wishes Always, Gail from Pa. USA
ReplyDeleteThey seem to end the good series and keep going with the dross ... I guess it's all based on money these days. To end it with a plane crashing through the Doctors surgery and all those loose ends was very annoying.
DeleteAt first glance I thought that said "Homefries" and you were about to talk about oven chips! Until Peaky Blinders came along I'd never watched any period dramas on TV, the Nick Cave soundtrack and the good looking cast won me over!
ReplyDeleteI love the raggle-taggle wildness of the planting next to the stone bridge, that's exactly how my dream garden would look. xxx
It's very cleverly planted with things that attract the wildlife of the canal. Come Autumn when it starts dying down they give it a bit of a tidy so that there are places for insects to over-Winter and then do a proper tidy of it just before the Spring bulbs all pop through.
