Waiting for Dad

Alan was away down South for a few days for work at the start of the week and as usual Mavis went periodically into a state of decline.  It's almost as though the food with Mum is good, the walks with Mum are good, the snoozing in the doggy bed right next to Mum's chair is bliss ...

... but every now and then she realises that Dad has gone.

And there's nothing for it but to sulk and stare into space, or in this case sit looking at the freezer door for over an hour.

Every single time he goes away it's like this, and gosh he's been doing it for all of her little life with us, she knows he always comes back but she does enjoy a good sulk.

I usually let her have her space for a while and then call her back to me Suky and Ginger in the living room end, and put something doggy related on the television for her.  She does like a good programme with dogs, cats or farmyard animals to watch.

She also loves watching Mr Hamster ... but the music drives me mad so she only gets small doses of that.

And yes, those are Gingers ears at the very bottom of the first photo.  😸

    1. Yes, I think she's after sympathy ... I just tell her to snap out of it and then give her a cuddle. :-)

  5. Poor Mavis, such a sweetie ,dogs are sensitive souls and her pack is incomplete at the moment I would love to see her reaction to Alan arriving home. Is that Ginger's ears I see at the bottom of the photo ,photo bombing !

    1. Oh she goes absolutely nuts, which makes her cough for a while now that she's getting older. So it's excitement, then a coughing fit and then bed for a good nights sleep.

Well done Sherlock ... it is, he was sat directly in front of me. I added the last sentence to the post so that others will spot them. :-)

  6. Any doggy photo is sweet especially when it shows a quirk! Just to be nosey, what are the two 'things' on the wall above the radiator? Lesley

    1. It took me a minute to figure out what 'things' you meant, I think I've got it now. Look out for the next post. :-)

  8. My husband worked shifts/away when our daughter was small. She used to sit or stand at the glass panel next to the door looking for him for spells each day he was away. Catriona

    1. It is very subtle isn't it, and it makes a change from his tail which I usually edit out of photos. :-)

  12. Isn't Mavis such a wonderful little dog and I'm sure Alan misses her when he is away♥ Love the ginger ears. We have just adopted a 9 month old ginger kitten, his name was Marlon but I've changed it to Marmalade as we had a ginger cat called Marmalade when I lived in Manchester, many moons ago:)

    1. I send him any photos like this that show how much she's missing him. That way he can sit in his luxury hotel room and realise what misery he's causing at home. Haha :-)

My Gran always had a Ginger cat called Ginger, a white cat called Snowy and a grey cat called Smokey. It took me years to realise that it wasn't always the same cats just the same names used over and over. I have had two 'Gingers' now, our first one my boys named when they were young, and this one was already named by his previous owners and as he answered to it we didn't have the heart to change it.
