Oh it had to be done … our first Coffee and Cake walk.
We walked along the riverbank from the Van, then over the bridge, where I stopped to take this photo … there's no filters or alterations to the picture, this is exactly the wonderful blue sky and colouring that this morning presented us with. The river level is dropping nicely now after two days with no rain and lovely blue skies … but the nights have been cold.
Suky knows the way to our favourite coffee place, and the minute I mention coffee and cake she's off leading the way. Dogs are allowed off the lead once they reach the bridge and although she was off her lead briefly, once I caught up with her and unclipped it that is, I spotted that there was a Tarmac truck parked up and I knew the gate at the end of the long road through the field would be open. So after five minutes of sniffy freedom she was back on the extendable lead and trotting ahead of me all the way to the road.
With the sun shining it would have been a shame to sit indoors, so we sat under the covered patio area and enjoyed our little break. The sun rays felt beautifully warm beneath the old greenhouse roof with its willow walls. Our only companions were some cyclists, old lean men in tight Lycra tops and padded cycling shorts, also enjoying the sunshine along with their bacon and sausage rolls and pots of tea. They needed refuelling ... we just needed some liquid refreshment and a sit in the sun.
Once we had finished it was a quick wander around the field for Suky, chance for her to kiss a Spaniel and run rings around a little elderly Jack Russell and then a mooch around the beautiful clothes and gift shop for me.
A ten minute walk later and we were back home at the Van. We just have a lazy afternoon ahead of us, they really are the best sort.

Sounds absolutely idyllic, Sue. Unfortunately, no sun for us today, chucking it down right up till lunchtime. It has stopped raining now but is still very cloudy and cold. Can't wait till we can go on our beach walks again. Bet you're so pleased to be back at the van.
ReplyDeleteYou sound to be happily settled back in the van the pair of you in such a short time, and it does indeed look an idyllic walk (and coffee break.)
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! Rotten weather here right now but tomorrow is supposed to be really nice, fingers crossed.

Oh, lovely. Sounds like Spring has arrived at the van. With a properly managed extending lead, I know that Daisy was just as happy with her ‘umbilical’ attached as completely free - is Suky the same?
ReplyDeleteYes, she is. She really doesn't mind being on the lead at all and like you say is just as happy. Once she's had a few minutes sniffing and running free she just trots along by my feet anyway, unless she runs to greet other dogs … or tell the horses on the other side of the fence off.
DeleteLucky you, Essex has had rain since 10 this morning. It is cold, miserable and quite frankly I've had enough!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are enjoying van life and your walks with your gorgeous girl again. xx
ReplyDeleteWhen I read this post it made me think of John's post that I had just read. Fortunately little Suky probably wouldn't have bowled the men over with their wellies going flying!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely sunny walk for you and Suky this morning. My daughter’s dog and I had a far wetter one, but it still involved coffee and cake :)
ReplyDeleteSuky has the sweetest face! Enjoy being back at the van!
ReplyDeleteIt all sounds so lovely as does your plan to enjoy a lazy afternoon.
