Something to Read and Something to Watch

Now and then I am going to share links to some of the Facebook and YouTubers that I follow or know.  If you have suggestions that you think I would like to discover please feel very free to leave them in the comments below.

Let's all … while we have this time to be able to … scroll, watch and listen and find some new people with similar interests to us from all over the UK or the world.

And while we're there lets delete, unfollow or simply stop looking at all those things that pull us in and drag us down and depress us.  Personally I'm starting with all the YouTubers who whilst talking about sustainability and simplifying their lives then bombard us with their latest acquisitions, sponsorship deals and things that you simply have to have.

Something to read and watch.

A brilliant person to follow on Facebook and/or YouTube is Plant Based Gabriel … well I mean just look at his beautiful little daughter.  There are lots of recipes, some foodie based gardening hints and tips … and lots of lovely photos of little Bridgette.

Something to make you smile.

And Mavis says ... Hope you have a lovely day  πŸ’–

  3. What a good idea, there is quite a bit of negativity about F/B and Youtube, but both can also be uplifting and very funny, which is what we need at the moment.

  4. I'm a sucker for #dachshundsofinstagram on instagram. Very cute!
Hope this isn't too far off what you meant, Sue, but on a slightly more cerebral level, the Khan Academy has a host of free art history short videos for anyone who is interested. The link is for a fabulous 6min Sistine Chapel video, and if you can, enlarge the video to full screen. The left of the page will direct you to the other periods/videos that the Khan Academy offers. One of my favourite sites.

  5. Thankyou for sharing this Sue, I shall certainly be watching Gabriel on YouTube in the future.
One of my all time favourites on YouTube is bealtainecottage.

  6. Oh, you are so right! Did you see the links to “Stella the leaping dog” on YouTube. Hang on while I dig out the link, here you go:

I saw some of the Venice photos - fabulous. For sometime now, Venetians having been saying “this is too much” with those horrifically massive cruise ships turning up. Perhaps when travel is possible again, they might change the model? Limit the numbers of people and boats allowed - that would make it so much nicer.

This week I went through my Feedly blog list and dumped every feed that’s been on there for too long with writers who were no longer inspiring. Very liberating. Take care. πŸΎπŸ’•

  7. Here’s another one for you

An initiative from The Open University. Lots of online courses. Free. Massive range of subjects. Well put-together by University profs. Did I mention free?

    2. I'm currently studying the course on Mining and have done loads of courses through Future Learn; they are brilliant and you get to 'chat' to lots of other lovely learners on the discussions following each lesson (discussions are optional). Courses are free unless you want to purchase a certificate. They are very relaxed and not too 'high brow'.

You can sometimes also get free courses on Udemy if you look for vouchers on Hotdeals UK or other sites. Otherwise there are some really good cheap short courses.

  11. With shortages in the shops just now, all of us frugal and simple living folks out here have the skills to cope with this fairly well. We know how to cook from scratch, how to stretch things out to make them last longer, we know how to make do and mend and also how to live a quiet life and keep ourselves entertained.

Keep well everyone and lets support each other. Blogs like this are going to be appreciated even more now! x

  12. Mavis is a cutie pie, I think she would like my Bounce. We are told to shelter in place in California, with walking outdoors allowed, and I when I walk Bounce I see many happy dogs these days as their people are spending more time with them.

  13. Thanks Mavis, I did have a lovely day. The sun was shining, and without the constant noise of vehicles passing I could actually hear the birds.

    God bless.
