Do Your Best

September 2014

A solitary Poppy growing in the slate that used to cover the ground all around the house.

  1. That 'motto' would be appropriate on my wall Sue - it sums meup a treat. I love the poppy. They are all over my garden and I love them. My gardener hates them and I have had to threaten him with a fate worse than death if he dares to pull one up before they seed and give me another good show next year.

    1. Yes, we've got them everywhere here thanks to me doing that the first year they appeared. But they only grow where they self seed, I've tried collecting the seeds but they never come up where I scatter them. Poppies seem to have a mind of their own!!

  2. I've just been over to the meme site you used. You use the most appropriate ones at times! It's a nice site, I've just spent a lovely half hour reading some - I've had a few 'bad' days lately and some motivational quotes are just what I needed! Onward and upward!! x

    1. I pick my memes up from the Facebook groups I'm on, when you find one you like you can scroll back through their photos and pick lots more.

They do help sometimes don't they and you feel like saying 'YES!!' when something comes up that just rings true.

I hope you can get over the bad days. I think lots of us are going through tough times at the moment and lockdown has only served to highlight things.

  3. As a child, I would have to present my end of term results to my great-aunt, who had been a teacher. She would read through carefully and then ask me "Did you do your best?". As long as I could honestly answer Yes, she would be satisfied. Doing our best is all any of us can do.

    1. Now that is lovely, what a wise woman your great-aunt was, I bet you felt such a sense of pride in yourself because of her pride in you.

I got my love of the site my Van is on through being taken there most weekends by my great-aunt and great-uncle, along with my Nana. A small child and three pensioners in a tiny four berth caravan sounds like it shouldn't work but it just did :-)

    1. They really are, and yet they are so delicate and short-lived. They can teach us a lot about the world if we think about it.

  5. I think these sayings are meant for me!

  6. I think we are both at a similar place in our lives, along with a few more others that read my ramblings ... they just ring true don't they :-)

  7. They have got more and more prolific the longer we have lived here. We are about to have a magnificent display near the polytunnel ... if I can just bring myself NOT to cut the grass they are growing in.

  8. I agree with you, they do have a mind of their own, popping up in the most bazaar places.

    1. Yep, we have a patch that is more poppies than grass, unfortunately it's in a place where we needed some fresh new grass ready for viewings ... but I can't bring myself to mow the poppies :-(

  9. I always strive for perfection, I wish I wouldn't but difficult to unlearn. Must try harder :)Living in the moment more would also be good.

    1. Yes, I used to, but now I strive for good enough for me. If it's not good enough for anyone else then I don't really mind now, it used to REALLY bother me if people criticised now they just get my 'poor you for not understanding' smile.

  10. Lovely poppies, my aunt had them both sides of the backyard path when I was very little and we lived with them for a while, my dad used California Poppy hair oil and I didn't understand how you could get oil from a flower.
One of my pet sayings is " You can only do your best on any given day" different day, probably different best.😊
My first thought of first pic was " Thrive where you're planted " ....even if accidental.

    1. I love the saying 'thrive where you are planted'. With a little bit of effort we can all do that ♥️
