First Shopping of the Year =16p

Did I need to go shopping, not really if you are looking at the food I have in BUT  (yes it's a BIG but 😁)  I had the £10 voucher for Booths in my purse along with my January money and it was due to run out this week, and with such a low budget for this year I was not about to let that happen.

And I have just this moment realised that the two vouchers I have were added to the grand total in the workings out for the year, so I do in fact have to take £10 in cash out of my purse for this months housekeeping money.

So the photo is quite clear and you can see exactly what I bought with my ten pounds.  I wanted to get a couple of things that were needed ... the apples and bread rolls, and one very necessary thing to pick up was a birthday card for my brother who is another year older on Saturday and is bringing my Mum to visit Lavender Lodge for the very first time on his birthday, hence me buying some eggs.

Although I don't usually eat eggs I am more than happy to make his birthday cake in the style that he loved when he was a much smaller boy, and yes I will even have a small slice to celebrate the happy day before sending him on his way with all the leftovers.

Don't the apples look lovely compared to those poor wrinkly things I used up the other day.  I nearly bought a pack of six for £3, they were gorgeous looking apples and they were already in my trolley before eagle-eyed Alan spotted these being sold loose at just 30p each.  So I quickly swapped over and thought that four of these whoppers would be more than enough for now.

But I had done my trolley contents calculations on the pack of six so I needed to buy something else to get as close to the £10 voucher value as possible as you can't get change from these vouchers.  So I decided on the shelf-stable milk, this is not my usual brand but this was on special offer and comes highly recommended, and the houmous ... that looks so wrong to me I usually spell it hummus but seemingly houmous is the original British way of spelling it although the American hummus is usually used now ... wow who knew, not me for sure!!

The Booths receipt is a very complicated layout due to how they put the offers at the top and then everything else below.  I figured it out in the end though and have folded it so that you haven't got all the waffle on show and so that it fits to stick it into my Challenge Diary for posterity.

So my first spend of 2022 was a massive 16p ... even the cashier was impressed. 😀

  1. Well done you. You must be proud! I used to love visiting booths when my son was studying forestry at cumbria university. It sold so much good local produce, pricey but worth every penny as it supports the local community. He is now training to be a paramedic as he wants to help out during Covid.
We fly home today. Overloaded but glad. Keep up the good work

    1. I do love Booths, everything about the shop is just lovely. There are occasionally bargains to be had there and regular freebies for card holders, so although this year has a tight budget I should be able to still shop there occasionally.

      Safe travels. xx

    1. I'm looking forward to them coming here as they tend not to visit much, and it will make it much easier for them to picture our lives once they have seen where we live. All the time we lived in Wales they came only 3 times.

  5. That is very impressive, Sue, well done! The apples look lovely for just 30p each too. I've found that apples are enormous at the moment so G and I share one each evening after our meal. It's just enough 👍
Enjoy your visitors and please do let us look at the homemade cake 🎂😀

    1. They really are aren't they and I was pleased that these were British apples too. I'll try and get a photo of the cake ... whatever it turns out like. I've not made a cake this year at all, I'm so out of practice.

  6. You did very well! I love when it's time to do a shop with my "Loyalty Points" - I make a game of seeing how much I can get for my points before i go over and have to fork out some actual cash!

  7. Great job! Especially when compared to my grocery order I'm about to pick up they shop and load it in my car (too many folks around here won't mask). Not much in the way of savings except for the fact that about 25% of the things I ordered are not available. Pretty much expected these days as supply issues in US are not going to be fixed anytime soon. Provides it own kind of "challenge."

    1. The US seems to be having it tough at the moment, is it all Covid related? It does seem to have been very mis-managed at the start, I guess it was hard for Biden to turn things around. :-(

  8. You did really well! Generally we go to the store twice a month, and I can tell you, my bill is a lot more than that, even though I have cabinets, freezers and a root cellar full of food.

    1. I did, I was really pleased. I'm really thankful that I have so much in the cupboards and the freezer. It will be more fun (??) once the back up supplies run out.

  10. Well done, you massive baby bio buyer lol! I have a suitcase packed with mince pies as my Japanese friends love them. I have eaten so many that I have a craving for them. So I have had to buy jars of mincemeat so I can make a eat them! Good it went to 9p at Aldi the other day. We just buy loads of coffee and green tea, that’s what ours would say.

I do hope you don't have to carry your cases too far, but your friends are going to love you returning with mince pies AND mincemeat to make them some more.
