Menu Planning ... and All the Food is in the Kitchen

So I finally got round to it ... not bad just three weeks into the new year and the Challenge ... oh well hopefully from now on in a bid to keep myself on track I will be writing my menu for the week each Monday.  Note that it is in pencil so I can chop and change if the food or the mood dictates.  😀

But my plan is to try and use the food in the order that it needs to be used and there are a few things in my cupboard as well as in the fridge with a January 2022 date on.  Isn't it strange that even late in the year last year, 2022 seemed so far away and now here it is!!

The job I gave myself yesterday was to get all of the food into the kitchen, if you ask me it's the sign of a real hoarder if they have boxes of crisps in the bedroom ... and now I don't.  All the crisps that were in the kitchen were used up over the last two weeks and now there's space for the new ones to fill the gaps.

There's also room in the larder cupboard for all the homemade marmalades to be stacked at the back ...

... which leaves the little green chest with just my Beryl Ware and a few other bits and bobs in.

Do I need my Beryl Ware I was asking myself as I moved the marmalades. No I don't need them I decided, but I do love them and that's enough for me ... for now.  💖

  1. WOW! Super impressive organization with that meal planning! That is way above anything I can accomplish!! HA!!!! Your jams look awesome! I spent the weekend scouring WVa to find little local shops that sell local jams and honeys! Jealous of your collection for sure! HUGS

    1. I do find I eat better when I take the time to meal plan, no more standing at the open fridge door waiting for inspiration to slap me in the face. 🤣

  2. You've created a very impressive menu plan. I like the fact that you have built-in some flexibility for changes. Your ability to organize is very impressive. I cook each day based on what I am craving. Sometimes I have the ingredients on-hand but I often have to make a trip to the grocery store. I do like meal prep.

    1. Yes, I have an eraser at hand should the need arise. 😀

  3. If you love them, if they give you pleasure and a joyful feeling, then no way should they be got rid of!! There are different kinds of need.

    1. That's what I thought, and the teapot is the last of what many years ago was quite a large teapot collection ... which is a weird one for someone who can't drink tea. 😀 🤣

  4. If you don't mind me asking why can't you drink tea.

    1. Apart from hating the smell of it, it makes me immediately, physically sick if I drink any by accident. My Mum reckons that's why she has never been able to drink tea since she was pregnant with me ... so she's had over 61 years of being a non-tea drinker!

I've tried all the flavoured teas, and fruit concoctions that purport to be teas in an effort to change this, giving myself lots of really yucky days in the process, so now I've given up and I just drink black coffee.

  5. Love the gingham jam pot lids [I think they raise home made marmalade to the status of Bonne Maman] Keep the Beryl! I'd invite myself over for Saturday's meals, but we are about to return to our low sugar diet for a few weeks [eaten too much Christmas cake] My mother always kept tea and sugar in a small bedroom cupboard. She was convinced there might be a National Disaster, and she'd need to take it to the church, switch on the urn, and serve tea to the desperate masses [in the Beryl Cups]

    1. They do look nice don't they, I wish they made green checked lids though ... now THAT would be so me!!

Birthday cake for lunch does sound good doesn't it :-)

  6. So now there's no temptation to have a midnight snack of crisps, as they've moved into the kitchen! I'd have been scoffing them on a nightly basis if I'd been in your shoes (or bed!) haha.

    1. Haha, no there's been no temptation to eat crisps in bed ... I'd have to get up and clean my teeth again if I did that. 🤣🤣

  7. What do you use the Beryl Ware for then? I didn't know what it was so I googled it. Is it a 1940s tea service? Did you inherit it from family or collect it? Can you display it or use it for something else besides tea? Seems too pretty to keep shut away.
Good job on the meal planning!

    1. I collected it from carboot sales, eBay and charity shops a couple of years ago and used it when I was doing my wartime rationing challenge. I just love the colour and the simplicity of it. And the coffee pot is a beautiful shape. 💚

  8. Hi Sue, great organisation. I'm trying to use up all the odds and sods in the cupboards and freezer. I'm back blogging in the hope to stay on track ready for when I get my own place later this year. X
