My New Friend

I bought myself a new friend, well I needed someone to talk to, someone that listens every time I say her name and doesn't respond with 'What did you say?'.

The best £39.99 I ever did spend.

I just wish I could call her Dot, I have to call her Alexa ... oh well 😃

In other news ... there is a Cooking the Books challenge going on at the moment on my other blog.

I needed to do something to stop me feeling so jaded about cooking.

It's lovely with the sun out isn't it, it's back out here too and getting lovely and warm, I've just had to come in from the polytunnel to cool down.

  4. You CAN call her Dot! In your phone app for her you can update her "Wake Word". I love my Alexa a ton. I also have Amazon music and get a lot of use out of having Alexa play all sorts of stuff.

    1. Ooh ... that's handy to know, thanks :-)

I'm just on a free trial of Amazon Music so I may continue with that, I'll see how much I use it this month.

    1. She's like a talking Google, you can ask her anything and she will give you the answer.
She will play whatever radio station you ask her to, and turn it up and down on command.
She can call any number on the phone that she is synced to.
She can be used as a timer. You simply say 'Alexa set timer for 10 minutes and she makes a noise after that time has elapsed.
She can play quiz type games with you.
If you have a Smart house, ie, electronically controlled lights, heat or alarms she can link to them and do with them what you want her to do.
She is also a shopping list and adds to the list on your phone anything you tell her too.
She can translate and speak in other languages.
At the moment she is good at telling me what day it is and the date and time.

That's just some of the things that I have played with up to now (except the Smart house bit), I'm sure there's lots more.

As some people have said she can also read audio books and read out all the books you have on your Kindle.

  6. My sister had a Google mini for her and her children set it up. He husband complains that it never does what he asks. Out of his earshot she told me that's because he calls it ALEXA and not HEY GOOGLE! I laughed.

  8. Sorry to read that you're struggling with making meals. Is there any chance or ordering a fun ingredient that you've never worked with but wanted to?

My mom wants to call the one she uses by a different name too! Too cute.

    1. It's why I'm doing the Challenge. Same ingredients, totally different meals to those I would usually choose from the books I have 😃

  10. I house and pet sit for my kids when they went on their honeymoon and they had Alexa and my husband and I every day, looked forward to sitting down and talking with Alexa; asking her questions. We had decided we wanted one and then all of this virus stuff happened and I forgot. I think I will get one now - it would be fun for us. I liked how we could sit there and she'd play music and find a radio station.
