Mavis, Suky and a Garlic Kiev

Mavis posed nicely for me the other day.  We were just sitting quietly and I grabbed my phone to get a photo.  She looked away so I just said her name and she went straight back into 'pose' mode.  She obviously thinks that this is her good side.

Every side is her good side, she's my little angel.  💖

Suky (my other little slightly grumpier angel) meanwhile was sat watching the birds walk up and down along the roof opposite.

She's very short sighted now but any movement catches her attention and holds her transfixed.  As soon as they all sat still and stopped parading up and down the roofline she lost interest and went for a long drink of water instead.

She is booked into the vets for a thorough doggy MOT on Monday and they are both booked into the groomers the following week.  Mavis needs her beard and scruffy bits brought under control and they both need a good bath and manicure.  It will come out of our joint bank account so it won't affect my No Spend Challenge thank goodness.

I had a simple tea last night, just a Marks and Spencer Garlic Kiev and some rice and peas.

I really like these and as I only have a single Kiev left in the freezer I will have to ration myself.  Hopefully I will get at least one £5 M&S voucher when the next ones are due and I will be able to get a box or two to keep me going ... or I'll be even grumpier than Suky  😄

    1. I have my fingers crossed too as obviously I have hardly used my M&S card to gather in any points. Hopefully I spent enough in December to qualify for something this time around.

    1. Mavis is doing really well and has a new best friend, a puppy called Maeve ... they both answer to both names now! They greet each other either in the street or through Maeve's back fence which is on the canal towpath.

    2. That's good to know. Thanks for the update.

  3. Good that you have found something reliably tasty to squirrel away in the freezer.

The dogs will enjoy their pamper session I'm sure.

    1. I don't know about 'squirreling' ... with only one left in the freezer I would be a very bad squirrel if I had only one acorn stored ;-)

They love it usually, and come home full of beans and wearing pretty bows.

  4. Lovely doggy photos, they are both photogenic :)

I like the look of the kievs and our daughter swears by them, although I've yet to try them. Our M & S is some distance away so we rarely get to shop there. One day maybe!

    1. They are, when they are in a 'keeping still' mood.

They are the best vegan Kievs around even confirmed meat eaters love them, possibly because some of the best chicken Kievs were traditionally made from minced chicken and that texture suited a lot of people rather than a full chicken breast with garlic in the middle. So I guess if someone preferred posh Kievs they might not like these as much.

  5. Adorable photos of Mavis and Suky. I tried the mashed potato pizzas last night. I used mushroom and pepperoni as my topping. I thought the same as you did that they tasted of pizza flavoured mashed potato rather than pizza. They were okay but I wouldn't bother again. I find using a halved and toasted garlic bread works better. I use thinly sliced tomato rather than puree as my first layer then whichever topping I fancy.

    1. Yes, I think I'll stick to more bready bases for my pizzas from now on, it's always worth trying these new things though isn't it.

    1. Unfortunately she has lots of little health niggles, hence me asking the vet to give her a good once over.

  9. I love Mavis' whiskers - they look adorable on her chin, not so much on mine!
As for Chicken Kievs - I used to love the ones I bought from Sainsburys but then they switched to a different manufacturer and the quality took a dive; I haven't bought any for months. There's not an M&S anywhere near me.

    1. They will be for the chop next week, you should see the mess she makes when she has a drink of water. She needs a good neaten up again after a shaggy Winter.

No we don't have an M&S near us either unfortunately, I usually call to the one in Sale when we're visiting Mum.

  10. Popped over from Vix because I loved your blog name. I was rewarded with cuteness. I don't refer to my dog as an angel, but he's all mine.

    1. If you knew Mavis' back story you would call her an angel too. Any dog as sweet and loving as she is after what she's been through earns the title. ❤

  12. Your pups are adorable. They'll be looking good for Spring. My neighbor's dog recently had laser surgery for a vision problem. The vets can do amazing things for our fur babies.

    1. I like to get them both professionally groomed at least twice a year. Other times Alan baths them in his bath, but we can't do this to Suky in the colder months as she takes a full 24 hours to dry out now we haven't got the log burner for her to lie in front of. And of course Mavis needs her beard, feet and eyebrows neatened up.

The vets are great these days aren't they. Suky wouldn't be a candidate for any laser treatment as she has had two eye ulcers in the last couple of years.
