Ethel and Jasmine

Last week I shared the blurry images of Ethel and her little daughter, Jasmine and promised you some clearer ones once I got home to Wales.

So here we are.

Jasmine is a sturdy, confident little lamb.

Happy and bouncy and afraid of nothing ... which is what usually gets lambs into trouble.  Shepherds usually say a lamb's main objective in life is to get itself killed.  Well I hope she doesn't go that far, but she's here, there and everywhere exploring her new home in our orchard.

Luckily we have good fencing round the orchard and the happy little duo are safe in there and with cover by the hen-house in case of wet and windy days or nights, which Ethel is very good at using.

Since having her I feel even more sorry for sheep left out in all weathers as she has proven that if given the option a sheep will go under cover in any kind of wet, windy or even hot weather.

The grass is long and tasty enough that our youngish trees are not being nibbled.

Our gorgeous girls.

Although at times Ethel is showing her age as she hobbles around with her sprightly little daughter.

  6. What sweethearts - lambs always make you smile with the antics they get up to. I wonder if Ethel needs her feet trimmed/has foot rot, which is why she is a bit dot and carry one? We've had such a wet winter it could well be the latter, especially as she wasn't well cared for before coming to you.

    1. There's nothing wrong with her feet, we check them regularly and Alan trims them when necessary. She has an arthritic hip which means she hobbles when she walks and occasionally 'carries' her foot when she stands still.

    2. Poor old girl. My late ma-in-law always said "old age never comes alone" and how right she was!

  8. So cute! On our way to the shop this evening, a couple of women (presumably on holiday) had stopped beside a field to take photos of sheep. Two of the sheep stood very close posing for the photos. One sheep had its head cocked to the side with its ears upright, looking very comical.

  12. What lovely photos of Ethel and Jasmine! Hopefully once the weather gets a bit warmer, Ethel’s arthritis will be less painful.
