Outdoors/Indoors

The weather has been dismal since I got back here ... a bit like my mood actually.

Maybe it's the tail end of this cold, virus, or maybe it's that I miss my Smaller Life.  Everything here is too much, too big, too cluttered.   I find walking the land unbelievably oppressive and I feel the need to jump in the car and just get away as often as I can.

The chickens hunched in the rainy day shelter seem to share my depressed mood, but they unlike me relish every break in the weather and go digging for bugs and worms.

It will take more than bugs and worms to get me back on an even keel.

Ginger has the right idea, he finds pleasure in the simplest of things.

A new delivery and a new box and he's a happy chappy for a while.  Laughing down at the dogs as he sits in his new little kingdom.  Maybe I just need a big box, a cosy duvet and a late hibernation.

  1. It is also a cool, wet day here and I'm trying to find the energy to get out the door. I know a walk would do me good - but frankly, the couch and a good book are calling to me. The temperatures here are finally about to hit double digits (first time since November) but the grey skies still make it depressing. Just have to hang in there for another couple of weeks and it should change. Hope you feel better soon.

  2. When the world is too much, I go to bed with a cup of tea and a book. I hope you feel better soon.

  3. We have a chicken shelter exactly the same as yours in our chicken run. Our run is roofed with panels we can open in good weather but the shelter provides protection from the wind and cold. It amuses me to see the girls rush in there when it rains despite the run having a roof. Hope you feel better soon.

  6. It's dreary over here in Suffolk today. I spent an hour cutting brambles out of the front hedge - such fun! Some viruses hang about so hope you feel better soon and get back to England

  7. I know exactly how you feel Sue. This virus thingy has been hanging around for too long now and I am fed up with it too. Can't wait to get my energy back. All I want to do is lie/sit down and do absolutely nothing but we have to keep going.
I would love to be able to go to my own sanctuary and do exactly what I want to do but no can do at the moment. We are putting our house up for sale again soon (two failed attempts at it due to horrendous estate agents) and buying a static to live in while we look for another property so that should be exciting. Hopefully we can keep it on and it will be my little heaven. Hope you pick up soon.

  9. I hope you feel better soon. Cloudy, grey weather tends to bring me down. Enjoy your time with Ginger and Mavis while there. I hope you can get back to your smaller life soon.

  10. A gorgeous spring day in the Republik of Mancunia today so hope your weather improved later. Hope your mood also improved. I took my mum and her friend to lunch Both well into their eighties and both with walking sticks but they have a certain joie de vivre those two. Very happy to have been taken out for soup and a scone, a chat and a walk in the sunshine on my arm. It's the little things.

  12. Those fluey bugs can drag one down for weeks, I think, and make other things seem much more significant that they would usually be. We need a good dose of sunshine to help.

  13. I'm sorry to hear how you've been feeling, Sue. Hope you get back to 'smallness' soon. :)

Also - I have to say that Ginger is one very handsome little fellow. My ginger kitty has crazy, uncontrollable chest and belly fur. It looks rather sweet, but your Ginger looks so refined compared to my 'bad hair kitty.' Hahaha
