So We Had the Conversation ...

So we had the conversation ... you know the Lockdown Conversation that starts in our case with Alan saying, " If I work all day today and tomorrow I'll be able to take half of Friday off ".  I just looked at him and said firmly "Today is Thursday."

"No it isn't, it's Wednesday" he responded equally as firmly.

"IT IS THURSDAY" I said so firmly I woke myself up even though it was only 8.30am 😄

So thank goodness I had the means to settle the argument ...

" Alexa what day is it? "

"It's Thursday the 14th May" she responded ...

And clutching his little Thermos cup of tea and a packet of chocolate digestive biscuits, Alan vanished swiftly upstairs to his office to do two days work, with a voice getting quieter as he climbed the stairs saying something about making his own lunch later when he could break off.

Looks like another day on my own then.

I have no plans I'm not one for too strict a routine, my day is built around cups of coffee and flapjacks at the moment.

There will be a bit more weeding in the Net Tunnel at some point, most likely when it warms up a bit as there's been a ground frost overnight and that sun although it looks and feels deliciously warm through glass, is barely taking the edge off the chill in the air at the moment.

There's will be some blogging, some blog reading, some emails and well some other things, but first there will be coffee ... oh and flapjacks.

One thing for sure there will be Clapping for the NHS, for delivery drivers, for shop staff of all descriptions for all the emergency services and for everyone that never had the chance to down tools in the wake of this dreadful Corona Virus ... including the man in the office upstairs who is still slightly convinced that it's Wednesday  🤣🤣

  1. My hubby is the same and has been ever since he went down to a 2 day week. It's worse since lockdown, I get cross because the first thing he picks up in the mornings is his mobile. The day date and time are clearly on the screen!!

    1. I wish Alan would go down to a two day week, but that is never going to happen ever!!

That is so true about mobiles ... it's the first thing Alan picks up too I wonder why he doesn't notice the date and day as well as the time.

  2. Every morning I have to look at the desk calendar to see what day it is, and several times during the day I have to look to see what date it is. Soon it will be June.

    1. It will won't it ... we're heading towards the middle of the year and it feels like we should still be at the beginning.

  3. I was a day out most ofn last week but am back on track now. Flapjacks and coffee or tea or even adam's ale sounds a good way to fill the day to me. Like you I will be weeding once the air warms up a bit more.

  5. Best reason I've seen so far for inviting Alexa to live with you. A third party can be so useful in settling disputes!

  6. I don't trust her. I always refer to her as 'your other woman'. When we first had her, OH would ask "Alexa , whats the time?" and she would say "It's 7.30am, Have a nice day" -- but she never said that to me. Then we realised it only happened the first time in the morning when you asked her. NOW she doesnt say it at all. Have they changed her settings? because it's a bit naff to tell people to have a nice day when they are isolated/out of work/sick etc etc...

    1. Ours still says 'have a nice day' and I like the bedtime one best 'Goodnight ... hope the bed bugs don't bite', it makes me go to bed with a smile. Although her jokes are dire!!

  7. You're not on your own, hubby has been working 6 out of 7 days a week since the begining of March, wish he had been able to down tools also. One day last week I put a ball on his chair with his name written in masking tape on it. I told him I could talk to the ball, when he was in work. lol Even having him work at home would be better. Still another way to put a positive spin on it, is we still have an income, I guess. I still have lots to keep me busy, but I know what you mean, some company would be nice. Helen S.

    1. I think him working out of the home would be preferable for me and Alan. Having him 'here' but 'not here' is awkward and he only needs help with something, or a lunch making when I'm in the middle of something else. I'd rather be on my own and just able to get on with things.

  8. Don't be too hard on him Sue - we are all suffering from the same bug. The days merge into one and I almost forgot the clapping last week - only when I saw people coming out of the bungalows opposite did I realise it was Thursday.

  10. I think we've all had that conversation! We're still dog sitting for our daughter who works in a supermarket 3 days a week so at least that gives us an idea of what day it is 3 times a week!! We hear scratching at the door and we know he's arrived then when her car drives up he shoots out the door to go home again! No contact necessary lol. x

    1. Sounds like a wonderful arrangement for you all, and it keeps you on track with the days ;-)

  11. Without a few definite 'appointments' scattered through the week, I would be very confused about the days too. It was the same before I retired - I was fine in term time but in the holidays it was so easy to forget the day.
In a way, quite nice not to be ruled by words!

    1. It would be nice to be able to ignore clocks and calendars for a while wouldn't it. A real pie in the sky dream though methinks even in these strange times!!

  12. Having been ill and in my room for nearly three weeks, then only venturing downstairs for a few hours for another three weeks, I've completely lost any sense of routine, not going out, no shopping, no craft clubs, no watching tv programmes even.

Its very odd and not pleasant but yes necessary, to Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives. Which we will keep on doing here, regardless of what Johnson says.

    1. Boris seems only to be thinking of the London area. Everywhere else still has a higher R rate. It's very sensible to stay at home I think.

I hope you're soon feeling much better.
