Do You Fancy a PROPER Look Through the Freezer ...

I fancied doing something different this month, so instead of taking loads of photos and trying to talk you through them via the key board, below the fridge photos you will find three YouTube videos of me actually talking you through what I have in the freezer, and finding out for myself in the process. 😀

But first the fridge ...

I don't know how worthwhile it is showing the contents of the fridge each month as usually the fresh food is quite a revolving type of thing.  I buy the fresh stuff and eat it, not much sits there for long ... usually!!

That's last months fridge space for instance.

There are a few chocolate bars missing from the door, but there are just the usual condiments ... and a tin of grapefruit that has been in there for far too long.

Cheese and Fruit Drawer Today

The cheese stash has gone down a bit since Christmas, I think I ate about four packs in January and one last month, but I don't have any earlier photos of this drawer open to compare to. I found some!!   I am  very low on fruit now though, hence me opening a tin of peaches this week to eat with my yogurt.

As it was at the beginning of the Challenge.

The vegetable drawer is definitely looked sparse too, so I think this weeks £10 will be spent filling it up ready to have a backbone of foods to help me eat my way through the freezer stash.

The abundant vegetable drawer in January.

And talking of the freezer ... there were no photos to compare to for the freezer as until now there has been no way to see more than the top layer of each drawer as they were packed so tightly and I couldn't be bothered emptying each drawer out ... here are three YouTube videos with me talking you through the contents of the top, middle and bottom drawers.  If you get sick of the sound of my voice I'll revert to photos again next month 😁

If you could click on the Thumbs Up button if you like the video (or the Thumbs Down one if you hate it) I will know if any of you have watched them and if you want to see any more done this way.

YouTubers that make a living out of this have absolutely nothing to fear from competition with me ... you have been warned!!

I've included the actual links below each picture for those of you that read on phones etc, but clicking on the picture itself should take you straight to the clip on most other devices.

So here we are into the third month of the Challenge and I have to say it's going well.  I'm pleased that there is less and less stashed everywhere, just having food where it belongs in the kitchen is the first step, the next step is to make things more logical.  I think I can mostly do this by comparing how I did things to how I want to do things, so these posts are as helpful to me as they are hopefully interesting to you.

  2. I'm one of your 'subscribers' on YouTube so I'll watch them when I get my daily dose of YouTube. I am sure it will be really interesting, thanks.

That lovely, organised fridge does my heart good.

    1. You were probably a subscriber of my old channel then. You may have to re-subscribe to this one.

  3. Last evening I watched (most) of a Kitchen and Bathroom revamp show. One of the kitchen gagets was a camera inside the fridge/freezer that suposedly allowed you to check then contents by phone while you were in the supermarket. I thought of you!!

    1. I don't think I'll bother with one of those, just regularly keeping tabs would be cheaper and be one less gadget. It would have been a great idea for that huge chest freezer we had in Wales though, we found all sorts at the bottom of that when we moved :-)

  4. I have to say if my fridge were that empty I would PANIC. I have always kept a well-stocked pantry, fridge and freezer and as we live up a couple of steep hills from town, any snow or ice in winter would keep us from getting there. A friend who lives on a flat bit at the edge of town told us, if it snows you've had it where you are! Fortunately we are heading into spring and no real snow to speak of this year where as last year it snowed quite heavily the week after we got here.

    1. I used to have more in my fridge when we were in Wales and further from the shops, it's not the same worry now that we have three supermarkets in under a three minute drive.

  5. Apart from the no fish fillets (lol) my freezer contents are very similar!! I freeze bananas and lemon juice in the same way. You've actually managed to squeeze in a lot of good food in your freezer! Your challenge is going well and as always is inspiring me! :-) xxx

    1. The no-fish fillets are the nearest thing to a good battered fish fillet that I've found ... far too tasty on a bun for a quick lunch.

  6. I really enjoyed the U tube videos, thank you for doing them :) It's great to see you sorting things in 'real time', Sue, and you have loads of stuff to get through. I would imagine that you only need to shop for fresh stuff for quite some time. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who forgets to label things sometimes!

    1. I enjoyed doing it, I did notice that you can almost hear me 'thinking' about things when I'm talking, there were definite little breaks in my talking when I know I was considering what I had in my hand :-)

Yes I think the whole of this weeks £10 will be on fresh fruit and vegetables.

  8. It was nice to hear what you sound like! I did notice that the last video had closed caption which is helpful to me. The first 2 didn't have that and I cannot always understand what you are saying. You certainly are well stocked up for food!

    1. If you watch the videos on YouTube you can click on the little square CC box on the bottom bar and this brings up subtitles in the language being spoken, I don't know if you can change this to other languages though, I'm not really that knowledgeable on YouTube yet.

    1. Thank you. I don't know about doing it much more regularly, but this is definitely MY channel, even if it does only have a few videos on it spaced out over the years.

  10. Nice videos. I couldn't hear you very well that could be my speakers on my laptop. Loved seeing what you have in the freezer, and fridge.

    God bless.

    1. You could try putting the captions on, they print out on screen as they are spoken. Sorry I'm not much more help but I am a real amateur at YouTube.

  11. I did enjoy listening to you talking through your freezer. You are so well organised. And the UK has a much wider range of prepared foods than we do here. Those Spinach bites looked delicious. Can you tell me how you use frozen ginger - do you microplane off what you need while it's still frozen? I so often waste ginger but I'd never thought of freezing it.

    1. I just grate the ginger from frozen straight onto a plate or into the pan if I'm already cooking. It lasts for ages in the freezer if it is really well wrapped so I always have garlic and ginger in the freezer.

  12. My word, my fridge is never that empty, ever. These days it stays full of eggs, as our hens are laying 2 dozen a day. Thankfully we have an outlet for them so we can sell them every Friday. I am in amazement at how you make your food stretch, and how much money you save. Mine usually has so many open jars in it--pickles, relishes, juice, etc. And leftovers because I still cannot cook for less than an army apparently. So I cook one day in three or four, and we eat the leftovers the other days, LOL.

    1. I used to have a separate fridge for eggs when we had the 50-odd girls all laying at once, it was set at a slightly higher temperature than my usual household one and was usually full to capacity just before each Farmers Market.

I only tend to have one jam or marmalade open, one mayo and one or two pickles, and once opened I always try to use them before dipping into another one from the larder.

Of course there is mostly just me eating from here so I don't need that much in and once I open a pack of something or make a pan full of something if I am not going to eat the rest of it quickly the rest just goes into the freezer.

    1. Thank you, it's not something I do often but I quite enjoyed it, and of course it saved all the food from thawing out while I faffed about taking photos :-)
