No Food, No Stuff ... and Death to the Dust Bunnies

I think I'm sick of food!!

Eating the food, buying the food and blogging about the food ... so I decided I would start to do a bit of decluttering and sell a few more things instead.

I started to think about getting rid of stuff when I was dusting the other day.  Now dusting itself is a thing I do only when I have absolutely nothing else to do, I would prefer to read a book, play with a dog, talk to a cat, dig a hole ... anything except move dust from one place to another.  I wonder how much dust we make, churn up and remove in our lifetimes ... I would hazard a guess at enough to stuff a double mattress with.

Anyway as I dusted the bowl in the photo, the bowl that has sat there since the day I moved in and although looked very pretty was actually doing nothing except taking up space and catching some of the aforementioned dust.  I decided I had dusted it for the last time.

I took it's photo and added it to my Facebook Marketplace page ... it sold within two hours along with a folder containing 120 DVDs that I knew I would never watch again to the same lady.  The DVDs were for her Mum to watch and the bowl ... well I guess she'll either be selling it on for a profit or dusting it for the next few years.

Either way I now have £10 in my coat pocket that I can drop in the collection buckets for the people of Ukraine next time I go shopping or for a coffee at Booths.

And one less thing to dust.  😀

  1. "Sitting doing nothing except gathering dust" - what a lovely way of describing superfluous clutter. Well done for more 'getting rid'.

Yesterday I looked at a display shelf full of crystal we received a couple of lifetimes ago as a wedding present . . . they are now in a box in the boot of the car waiting to be handed over to my favourite charity shop. I confess I did not dust them first.

    1. Good for you. Things although beautiful can sometimes start to feel just a little claustrophobic can't they. It can be a relief to get rid of even things we love, and you have the added knowledge that yours will be loved by someone else AND raise some money for charity.

  2. Such an uplifting post in your own specific style - thanks, Sue. xx

  3. I've always thought of dusting as a pointless exercise....it's just moving the dust to another place, or it hangs in the air and re-settles as soon as you move away.

I like the deer's head....you're not decluttering that too are you?!

    1. When you see it floating round in the air when the sun shines you know it's going to be a never ending job don't you.

Not at the moment ... the deer's head stays, it was just a £6 purchase from Asda many years ago.

  4. I keep thinking of all the things that many Ukranians have had to leave behind - a china bowl, no matter how pretty, is not something you grab when fleeing for your life, and how many pretty bowls that once adorned someone's home are now in a pile of rubble. Well done for passing it on and passing the money on to the fund. x

    1. Exactly, I think this was what made me stop and think the other day.

    1. Just little bits going, and perhaps doing a little bit of good as well as making me feel 'lighter' in my space is a good feeling.

    1. It's only a little something but it all helps.

  7. I hate dusting too. Although I do it, it seems pointless, which is why we got rid of so much stuff when we moved and now I'm struggling to find anything to sell! Well done you for donating the sale proceeds to the Ukraine relief fund. I drop change into the buckets whenever I can and wish we could give accommodation to a family too, but we don't have a spare room.
    The stag's head is lovely!

    1. We are currently looking into being able to take in a couple or a Mum and children, but because of Alan's work we have to get special permission to be able to do this. Nevertheless we are trying. The thought of the top floor en-suite room being of help to someone for a year or so would make us very happy.

    2. Oh Sue, that is wonderful. I'm sure a family would feel very welcome moving into the house with you. What a lovely, kind couple you are x

    3. It would be wonderful but it all depends on the MOD and security rules unfortunately. Fingers crossed!!

  8. That bowl is a pretty thing, but what a good way to use the proceeds from your sales. I need to find a place I can donate--perhaps from my eBay sales.
