The television is a friend at the moment, there's only so many doggy walks I can go on before Suky's little legs give up the ghost and I would need a skateboard for her to sit on to go any further or any more often.
The other day I had a very random days TV watching. I started off with a couple of episodes of Coal House, this was actually from my DVD collection but was a television programme from way back in 2007. It's good watching and the sort of programme that will always hold my attention.
Halfway through the first Coal House disc I decided to make my lunch and had a change of viewing, a shmaltzy American Christmas film that I had recorded the day before, At first I thought I had seen it before as I recognised one of the buildings but as the star stepped through the front door it was completely different inside ... obviously a frequently used Christmas film set!!
You just know the outcome of these movies but on a dreary day a bit of escapism outweighs the fact that you have just given up ninety minutes of time that you will never see again, just for the moment at the end when you go 'awww', and the credits rolls with the main stars happy in each others arms and the whole town singing of Christmas wonder.
Yep, they definintely all look different!!
So the one thing that is getting a lot of use at the moment in my new little flat is my second hand bargain sofa 😄
What have you been watching recently and which medium do you watch on?
Here at the flat I have Freeview television for normal television viewing via an aerial, an Amazon Firestick so I can watch all the catch-up channels and favourite YouTubers on the big screen (not that mine is actually that big) and Netflix ... and of course my huge DVD collection. Which all adds up to more than enough to keep me entertained through these lockdown days and beyond.
My name is Sue ... and I am not ashamed to say I do love television!!
Sue xx
I love the quizzy type things - yesterday I enjoyed House of Games, Only Connect (my favourite, I think) and University Challenge although I have stopped watching Pointless. I don't know why, maybe it was just a time thing. Maybe I ought to record it each day.
ReplyDeleteI love cookery programmes, home stuff like Homes under the Hammer, funnies like Would I Lie To You, Have I Got News For You and QI, historical factual stuff and social history like 'A House Through Time' and the ones where they live the life. Oh, and Doctor Who, of course!
I don't do soaps though.
I have Virgin and Netflix plus iPlayer, YouTube and a fair selection of DVDs although I haven't bought any for the last for some time.. It's all more than enough to keep me viewing happily of an evening. xx
I love Only Connect, although last night I didn't get a single question right and only about two thirds of the missing vowels round right 🥴. I don't do soaps either, my ex-husband was a soap addict, as was Alan's ex-wife funnily enough!!
DeleteI've been watching The Queen's Gambit this week on Netflix. I can definitely recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look that one up, there's so much available to watch isn't there. I've only had Netflix for about a month, I was amazed 😃
DeleteDefinitely not a soap person here either. I enjoy most quizzes, except silly ones and The Chase - almost any sport except horse racing and boxing. Not keen on costume dramas either . The Christmas films from the US are so soppy but an easy watch while reading at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI only have Free sat and a handful of DVDs
Yes The Chase is pretty much a 'must watch' in my house. Educational and fun, and good to have on while I'm making something to eat. I'm totally sport phobic, so there's NO sport ever allowed on when I'm around!!
DeleteYes the TV is a good 'friend' for me these days. Years ago my mother watched repeats of life and more often death in Midsomer and Oxford. She said she had forgotten the endings and who had dunnit. Now I am happy to do the same adding a few more like Vera and Inspector Moltabano to the mix. The live highlights are also Only Connect and Univ. Challge. what happened to Mastermind this Monday? I have Freeview on Humax which does it, so far, for me. Lesley
ReplyDeleteI love Midsomer Murders, well it's location fees paid for the village hall to be renovated and redecorated where we used to live so lots of us did :-)
DeleteVera is a 'must see', as was Shetland when it was on and The Bridge ... the Swedish detective show NOT the 'celebs' building a bridge!! Yes I have Freeview on Humax, it gives even more channels than our Freesat Humax box back in Wales, so it was worth every penny to get another one for the Van and now it's here with me at the flat.
My Mum is staying with me and she watches all day from 6.00 onwards consequently I have caught a lot of Sharpe, the Chase, anything antiques and lots of murder mysteries when she leaves on Friday I am planning a telly free week-end!
DeleteHaha ... it can get a bit too much can't it :-)
DeleteMy husband would have the news on all day , I wait till he leaves the room and then I turn over lol
ReplyDeleteAlan used to do that, but during Coronavirus times even he got fed up with it and switched over.
DeleteMy go to for feel good moments is Grace and Frankie on netflix, I would just love to be Frankie, I also love Morse as I like anything with John Thaw and adore Oxford, I have only been there once and can't wait to go back again. My husband will watch anything, even the still screen when we use freeview for radio, I can't watch any vet or animal programmes that I know will have distressed or poorly animals in, too upsetting the same with hospital emergency or air ambulance ones.Classics like only fools and horses, the good life and yes minister are favourites too.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Grace and Frankie I'll have to look out for it. I used to love Morse and have been to Oxford lots of times it's a lovely city. The first time accidentally driving through it ... NEVER AGAIN!! It was the Park and Ride every time after that hair-raising adventure!!
DeleteThe Queen's Gambit and Grace and Frankie are both great.
DeleteThese both seem to be highly recommended, I'll definintely have to give them a watch :-)
DeleteMidsomer Murders, Vera and the 1940's House, the first two by subscription and the last via Youtube. I use a lap top. I just finished Yorkshire Vet and would probably enjoy Coal House. Cheers to you and Suky.
ReplyDeleteYes, to your first three, I love them all :-)
DeleteIf you enjoyed The 1940's House you'll love Coal House.
Madly copying titles here and hoping I can pick them up on something.
ReplyDeleteRight now I just finished Queens Gambit and as another poster says highly recommend it.
God bess.
Yes, I'm picking up lots of good tips ... how many hours are there in a day again, Lol :-)
DeleteI was going to say, "Grace and Frankie" too! Hilarious good fun, although at times it feels like Lily Tomlin is overacting, but I became accustomed to her character. It is supposed to be a zany one. I loved "Schitt's Creek" too, and pined terribly when I watched the final 6th season, but oh my, another hilarious series! My sister has a little dog, too, and bought a stroller at a yard sale to put her in when she gets tired! It has worked a charm on longer walks! This stroller is an umbrella-type, so the handles are lower, too low, to be comfortable for long. So I recommend checking charity or resale shops, and give it a drive first! There are the type with 3 wheels, one in front, 2 in back, that can go "off road" better, and those will cost a bit more. The variety available online is truly staggering.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Grace and Frankie is a really good watch, I'm going to look out for it for sure 😃
DeleteI would only get one of those strollers for Suky when she's much more elderly and infirm. I'm a firm believer in 'use it or lose it'. She might only have little legs and be able to walk a mile or so before tiring but that's because she's a small companion style dog and not designed for long rambles not because her legs don't work. We'll walk together as long as she's able,
once I got a stroller for her I know the lazy little madam would want to be in it most of the time 🤣🤣
How funny! William and I watched 'Nanny McPhee' last night. We'd seen Nanny McPhee Returns (the second movie). It was great fun. I got hooked on Midsomer Murders while recuperating from knee surgery. I have begun to watch The Trouble with Maggie Cole, which looks like it will be great fun, but it is on at an inconvenient time.
ReplyDeleteI think I preferred the first Nanny McPhee film out of the two, but they are both lovely family films aren't they.
DeleteI've always liked Midsomer Murders, the one I watched the other day had death by a round of cheese ... only in Midsomer eh 🤣🤣
I adore Nanny McPhee, and am not adverse to channeling her when I need to. The cheesy Christmas films are great aren't they? A nice pot of tea, a biscuit or two and a settle on the sofa, especially if my little kitty is joining me. Simple pleasures are the best.
ReplyDeleteI can think of no better way to spend an afternoon in Winter. ♥️
DeleteIn the evenings we watch some series TV programs such as The Good Doctor and Supernatural (which ends after two more episodes). We enjoy The Great British Bake Off which we get one week delayed on Netflix. There are also many good series to watch on Netflix. For older TV my all time favorite is The Waltons which ran here in the 1970's and early 1980's. It follows a large family that lives in the mountains of Virginia through the depression and WWII. We are getting more and more BBC shows here on Netflix and PBS. I will watch out for Coal House - it sounds like something I would enjoy! I don't know what we would do without TV and internet during this pandemic!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I used to love The Waltons, and also Little House on the Prairie both had nice family stories with a firm message embedded in them about doing the right thing or suffering the consequences.
DeleteI agree TV and the internet have been a real life line during this pandemic for so many people.
This is the one thing I fear, if we ever move "in town"... and that is not having anything to do. On our couple acres there's always something to putter with outside. Whether it be something I enjoy doing and something I don't, it still gives me direction each day. I am definitely not a television watcher but I can spend the same amount of time reading a good book, for sure. But I'd hate to have to do it because I lacked something else to do. I have a feeling your new life will be more welcoming when this virus is over and people start milling around once again. Hang in there. ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh there are always things to do in town. Not being on our land has been so invigorating for me. I do agree though that watching more TV has meant not so much reading for me, and I am starting to address that again now. I love a good book that you can sink into and completely lose yourself in. 🙂
DeleteYes, it was filmed in 2007, I would love to see what all the children look like now ... especially little Rhodri, what a character 😄
ReplyDeleteI never watch the television in the morning ... I do need to get some work done, but it goes on while I have lunch and when it's not the weekend it goes off again until teatime.
I remember the Coal House, and enjoyed the series. I am fortunate to live within a couple of hours' drive from where they filmed it, so went there a few years back. I like anything like that - though my favourite is probably Tales of the Green Valley. I could have just moved straight in there! Also similar programmes - the Victorian Farm, Edwardian Farm, Tudor Monastery etc. Just my cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteWe have Sky, and Netflix and Firestick and enjoy tv. In wet Welsh winter afternoons it is a boon to the soul! Anything historical or archaeological floats our boat, and good dramas. Hardly watch a film these days (usually too busy) but it's nice to be able to sideline the Covid situation with escapism.
I love TV! I'm obsessed with Scandi Noir, real life crime, anything to do with spies and the Cold War, scary thrillers and my all time favourite Peaky Blinders. I'm a happy little soul in real life but viewing wise, the bleaker and darker the better! xxx
ReplyDeleteI love the quiz programmes. Tipping Point, The Chase, Only Connect, House of Games. Midsomer Murders, Lewis, Father Brown, Vera, Foyles War, Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders are all favourites of mine. I watched Coal House at War when it was on tv and really enjoyed it. Anything to do with WW2 home front really. We have Sky, so I cherry pick a few films out of the vast amount on offer, normally a nice happy film, Notting Hill, Love Actually etc. Love Harry Potter films, still watch them even though there are no children in the house. I steer clear of horror films and sci-fi.
