Blogmas - Advent Day 20

My kitchen here at Lavender Lodge is finally finished.

The kitchen fitters had left me without a switch covering the wires that lead to the under counter lights and thus no way of turning them on.  To give them their credit the company had tried over and over to get an electrician to call round a do this 30 minute job but failed miserably.  So after three months and in a fit of 'I'll just do it myself then' Alan fitted a switch last weekend and I emailed the company to let them know that the job was now done.  Fearing a lawsuit no doubt if I then went on to electrocute myself after an 'amateur'  fix they quickly sent a qualified electrician round to check over and sign off on the work.  (Alan is not a complete beginner by the way, we did used to own a building company.)

Anyway before the electrician arrived they sent a representative round to apologise for the delay in finishing the job and he handed me a little box as a Christmas/apology gift.  I accepted gracefully ... through gritted teeth.  I have never seen someone handing over a gift appear so in fear for their life!! 😄

We shared out the contents, with Alan getting all the bits I either don't or can't eat ...

... and me getting all the bits that I can.

Isn't the jam jar that came with the mini hamper just so cute.  I dug out one of my mini Bonne Maman jars so you can see that although it's not teeny tiny, it's also not a full or even half sized jam jar.  I can see me using this little jar over and over.

Day 20 of the beauty Advent calendar and I have ...

... a Snapshot Ready Foundation Primer.

Being carefully guarded by little snowball girl, oops I've just noticed her little foot is painfully facing the wrong way ... gosh I'm cruel!!

  1. Funny how they could find an electrician just like that when they were running scared! That poor little Snowball Girl, she must be in agony lol.

    1. At least everything is now sorted in time for Christmas, and I'm loving having the under cupboard lights, I can finally see what I'm doing properly. 💡

  2. Now that's what I call an apology! Almost worth they hassle (I did say 'almost'!!!). Well done., Alan, and how lovely to have it all finished at last!

I really like your beauty Advent calendar and your sockmass calendar and am already umming and ahing about whether to indulge next year. This year's for me was a Yankee Candle calendar which has been really nice, although a couple of the little candles have been missing a wick so pretty useless! The Jacquie Lawson online one is a definite anyway!

I have plenty of time to think about it, anyway!

    1. I think perhaps a little trawl online to see if any of the advent calendars have been reduced might be a good idea. I know the Bonne Mamman one I got last year is currently half-price on Amazon, so perhaps there are others. 😃

  3. That little snowball girl is adorable. I hope you enjoy the jam. Funny how they can produce an electrician so quickly after your email...

  4. That Aldi advent calendar has really got some treats in it! I am halfway through a full sized tube of that primer and I love it. I'm going to buy one next year!

    1. I haven't tried the primer, perhaps I should. The only thing is I hate the feel of products on my skin so it would most likely get washed off after a few minutes. :-)

  5. That made me smile Sue - the minute Alan did it, their electrician was sent round! Nice to get an edible/drinkable Sorry gesture too.

    1. I guess it's just from a safety perspective, everything has to checked off after work is completed on any installation. Nice little hamper, but it didn't make up for me being without lights for 3 months .... grumble, grumble ... haha!!

  6. How frustrating to be left without a switch! Well done Alan, but what if you hadn't got him to call on. How long would they have left it for, I wonder?? Great result anyway, the hamper is lovely and nice to share :)
Your little snowball girl is so cute!

    1. It was being without lights that was hard, I was tempted to hot-wire them ;-)

She's lovely isn't she, somethings you just have to buy when you see them. She came to us with the Llama last year.

  7. Dear Sue, thank-you so, so much for the TWO bottles of perfume and candy cane which arrived this lunchtime. I am absolutely delighted with them and you are very kind. Wishing you and Alan a lovely, peaceful Christmas and New Year.

    1. My pleasure, although I loved the scent of the other perfume I could never have worn it being so allergic to all perfumes, so it's good that they have gone to someone who can enjoy them. All the very best to you too.

  8. Glad they at least sent an apology after Alan finished the job for them. I will have to check out Advent calendars here in the US as possible gift ideas for next year! I like your helpful hint about looking at the ones on sale now or right after Christmas. Socks would keep but I am not sure about some of the other goods... I will check it out. Thanks!

    1. Yes anything non-edible would keep fine if you can find them in the sales ... just remember where you have hidden them away ready for next year ;-)

  9. I bet it was hard to stay cross after they produced that gift! Lucky Alan had the skills to sort that switch. xxx

    1. It's a legal requirement after building and installation work that things are signed off by a certified electrician. Hope you have a great Christmas too. xx

That was a very nice gift.
