Blogmas - Advent Day 14

Earlier this year I discovered a new to me online sweet company ... The Conscious Candy Company  I found it after watching a YouTube video with Grackle and I have never looked back. It is just so refreshing to know that all their range is totally animal product free and the selection of chewy and jelly sweets that would usually have gelatin in just don't!!  Instead of brown paper packages tied up with string you get well packed boxes filled with gloriously pink tissue paper, all of which can be used ...and has been ... for gifts to other people.

And in amongst all the froth of tissue is all the gorgeous and fully vegan sweeties that you have ordered.  To say my sweet tooth is back would be an understatement.  But in this run up to the festive season and while I have been feeling so down in myself I have welcomed it and will do so for the next few weeks, then once again I will be all-growd-up and turn back to more savoury treats.  I am quite grown up in that no longer does opening a bar of chocolate mean I have to finish it all and then scout around for more, I can quite happily have a few squares or half a chocolate bar and relegate the rest to the fridge for later or the next day.

Something that I will be enjoying over Christmas and rationing out carefully and are these wonderful little Truffles.  The taste is amazing and lingers long after you have eaten them, with a glass of sparkling wine they are Christmas in a mouthful.

This latest orders will perhaps be my last as these 'crunchy' type bars and the box of  NOMO caramel chocolates have nice long dates on them and I will be saving these as a treat for next year when my excessive spending of this year is grinding to a halt.  I sealed up the box and hid it in the cupboard as I have lots more delicious treats to keep me very happy over Christmas ... but the Truffles are staying out ready for Christmas Day.

A previous order and one that I still have most of.

If you want to order from them try using the code GRACKLE to get a 10% discount, I'm not sure if it's still valid but it worked for me.

Todays Beauty Advent calendar gave me a 'Healthy Glow Plumping Serum', I wonder if I use all these products in the week before Christmas will I get a really good Christmas Glow Up.

  1. I know you can't eat dairy now, Sue, hence being vegan, but were you always vegetarian? I'm wondering whether vegan chocolate tastes like non-vegan chocolate? I've not got a particularly sweet tooth, I can take or leave chocolate....give me crisps any day! xx

    1. I was vegetarian, and therefore still having dairy and eggs but eating no meat since about 2010. Vegan chocolate can be hit or miss, some of it tastes like cheap cooking chocolate and some is lovely. So when you find a good one you stick with it ... like me and these 'Crunchies' 😀

I do love crisps too 😄

    2. Thanks for the answer, I was just curious! I often wonder whether vegan foods taste like....I hesitate to call it the 'real thing' but you know what I mean! But if someone has been vegan/vegetarian all their life, then they're not going to know!

    3. I think you have to take a step back and think for yourself what you are calling 'real food'. Yes vegan meat substitutes could be said not to be real food, but they are usually made out of real foods ... soya, wheat protein, vegetables etc. Vegan cheeses are made from either a soya or coconut base and must other vegan foods are made out of vegetables and seasonings.

Meat is simply dead flesh made to taste good with seasonings and marinades, and dairy is a HUGE topic that would take far too long to go into. 😄🤣

I guess there's lots to think about, but your last sentence is quite true. I ate meat as a child and hated it, as an adult I ate chicken and fish but no red meat except bacon, mostly because of how much better I felt with it out of my diet. It was when I learnt for myself by being at the slaughterhouse just how our 'food' started out, and recognised the dead body of a chicken as being the same as one of my girls
the ones that had lived as families, had complex emotions and grieved for their friends, that bacon and chicken left my diet too.

  2. I was vegetarian for about thirty five years and have been vegan for the last six years. I try not to think of food as real or not and as just food that I like or I don't and having looked at the ingredients in some non vegan foods I can't really think of them as food.

    1. That's a good way to look at, but I do regard some of the foods that have no seemingly 'real' ingredients as fake food. Some of the Angel Delight type things or some sauces are just a mix of chemicals and flavourings, some of which have purely been created in a lab. These I avoid like the plague.

  3. Having special sweets is key for the holidays. It appears you've found a great source for quality sweets. My source in the US is: Endangered Species. Their dark chocolate with cranberries and almonds is excellent. Sweets are secondary for me. My preference is for savory. That said, my newly purchased triple berry pie is delicious. Tis the season!

  4. I have always loved savoury items so sweets are just not so tempting. We do keep sweets around though as my husband loves sweeties. I remember my first meal with his family when his mother said "So for dessert, we have cake but there is also pie and , of course, there is ice cream .. vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavours", I was in shock. Our family had dessert only on special days and after our Sunday roast. Funny things .. family traditions.

    1. It's weird as until recently I had all but lost my sweet tooth completely, I really don't understand what's happened. 😃🙃😃

  5. I am glad you found some wonderful vegan sweets. All of us need sweets once in awhile, especially at Christmas.

    God bless.
