Blogmas - Advent Day 21

Ooh, it's looking magical in here now.

One word from me and Alexa turns on the fairy lights and the living room is suddenly festive and cheerful, something definitely needed on these dark and dull Winter days.  With today being the shortest day of the year anything that lifts the spirits and brings some light is very welcome.

Day 21 of the beauty Advent calendar and I now have a little tube of Ebony Rose Face Mask.  Ooh err, sounds proper posh!!

  1. My husband has just installed smart bulbs in the lounge. I keep forgetting and switching off the lights by hand!

    1. I've just got a smart plug, so I plugged the fairy lights into it instead of the lamp, so ow I just have to remember to turn on the lamp myself ... gosh it's hard work!!

  2. That does look so lovely; not having such clever technology I am amused and bemused that they can be voice controlled, who'da'thunk'it?

This year I will miss the lights from my Christmas tree when it is all put away - it's been so dark and gloomy I have been switching them on early in the day, almost every day.

    1. They are just plugged into the smart plug :-)

It will be dismal once the fairy lights come down won't it, I understand now why some people have them around all through the year ... our neighbours for instance!

  3. The Christmas tree lights have cheered up the room for several weeks - I may leave them up longer than I usually do this year - need something to lighten the doom and gloom

    1. Definitely, it's made a huge improvement to the light in my little place having twinkly fairy lights.

  4. Clever Alexa. Not an area of technology I have ventured into yet. I rely on a remote control for the Christmas lights and feel very high tech!!!
    It all looks lovely!

    1. I just bought a smart plug off Amazon last year when they were half price, I used it for the lamp when I lived in the flat and the actual socket was behind my bookcase and out of reach, now whatever I plug into it and say 'Alexa turn on lamp' she turns on :-)

  5. More and more I think I would love to have Google do the same. Just need to get the bulbs and Kris can set it all up for us.

    God bless.

    1. Oh I haven't ventured into any smart bulbs or anything yet, just one smart plug.

  6. Your beauty advent calendar has turned out to be a wonderful present. All nice quality and small enough pots and tubes to actually get used up, plus you've been able to test all the products to see if they're worth buying in the future. I saw the Liberty one on the telly last night, which was nice but I thought you'd have to be quite well off to buy it in the first place and also if you decided you wanted to carry on with a particular product. Nice, but not for me, as I resent paying too much for toiletries and cosmetics.

    1. It's been good, but it's not something I would have bought for myself. I'm not into toiletries and cosmetics I', really more of a soap and water and basic shampoo type of gal. Once all these little tubes etc are used up it will be back to normal. The only thing I've really enjoyed using is the little face cleanser, now that really works.

    1. She's not on her own but she does it through the smart plug. She just cuts power to it or restores it, so anything I plug into it can be switched on and off from anywhere in the lodge ... as long as I remember to call it 'lamp'.

  8. I hope you don't mind me mentioning it Sue, but I wanted to wish you good luck with your appointment tomorrow with the consultant. Thinking of you x

  9. I am wondering why your advent drawers are all out of order. I would have to line them up numerically! :)
Glad you are enjoying your treats and I love the pretty lights you put up!

    1. That's the way Advent calendars usually are so that you can have some fun finding the door or drawer that you need to open. I'm not OCD enough to have taken them out and rearranged them ... almost but not quite ;-)

  12. I love the advent calendar, but like yourself, not so much what’s in it. It’s difficult to see the scale, but I’d be tempted through January and February to refill it with things I love, then pop it away for next December. I’d have forgotten what I’d bought but I would know that I’d love everything 😍. Julie

    1. Funnily enough I was only looking at it last night and thinking something very similar. 😃. It's much too nice and sturdy to just put it into the recycling bin.
