Blogmas Days Seventeen and Eighteen - Arse over Tit ... and Christmas is Done

Day seventeen of my Advent calendars saw me with a little jar of marmalade, a pack of Spinach seeds, and from the decorations calendar from last year a little empty sack, very cute but I can't think why I saved it really!

The candy canes are a real necessity, all you regular readers know how much I love a candy cane ... at any time of year.  Remember the ten boxes at ten pence a box that I bought from Wyevale a few years ago, they kept me in cinema sweeties for months. 😄

And today's little stash another pack of Rocket seeds, I think a mistake has been made there.  I also got a little jam ... and an empty box.  Another little mistake, but this time on my part.

Sorry for missing yesterday, but I had an accident on Friday and slipped on ice.  We had gone to pick up Alan's suits from the seamstress, and while we were in her house it had rained slightly and then immediately iced over.  The first person to step out of her back door was always going to go 'arse over tit' (a real Mancunian saying) and unfortunately that person was me.  I ended up with a badly wacked ankle and a twisted knee, I can now look back and see the funny side as neither Sue or Alan could help me up as they were sliding all over the place, it was like something out of a comedy film.  But not even slightly funny at the time, and still extremely painful.

It's been a good few days though, both my sons have been with their partners to pick up the Christmas hampers that we had delivered to our house for them ... they all work strange hours and it was easier this way, and of course it meant that we got to see them all.

So with that complete now our Christmas is all sorted, the kids, grandkids and great grandkids have all got their Christmas money or gifts, all that's left to buy is a fourth birthday card for my great grandson ready for the 31st, and one final food shop for us and the Foodbank ... and then that is it Christmas is done and my spending this year is complete.

  1. I still have the fresh veg, cheese board type grocery shopping to do. Snap - like you I went arse over tit on an icy path outside the door. I didn't really hurt myself BUT I did get covered in the soapy and FOUL contents of the compost bin which I was taking out to empty, having soaked and scrubbed it. It did NOT taste good and I'd just washed my hair too!! By the way, I used exactly the same expression!! Hope you aren't limping too much.

    1. Oh gosh, that sounds awful and pretty smelly too.

Yes, unfortunately I am limping very badly my knee went sideways and my ankle initially felt like it had been smacked by a hammer. Black bruising is now starting to appear but my ankle is feeling much better today.

It feels like the weather is out to get us for sure, as Alan has just fallen while we were out ... flat on his back and banging his head on the pavement. Ouch!!

  2. Oh my goodness!! Hope the pain eases quickly. I've tripped and fallen a couple times too despite trying to be careful. Got very bruised toes and a scraped arm for my trouble. Up here we say arse over elbow, still a perfect description of it!!

    1. Ouch, there's nothing worse than a scrape, especially when you next get in the bath and the stinging sets in. Arse over elbow is 'slightly' politer I guess ;-)

  3. Ouch...you poor souls. I hope the fall didn't hurt your back as well, Sue, and that Alan's not concussed. It's so treacherous out there that I haven't moved out of the house for several days....dare not risk it.... apart from over the grass to the bird feeder.
We have hot water! The gas engineer came out this morning and has checked everything. It could have been a bit of grit in the diverter valve which stopped the water flow from the hot tap. There wasn't even a drip on Thursday. Carrying hot kettles about hasn't been easy but, at least, we had heating. Others are not so lucky.

    1. Funnily enough my first thought when I landed was 'well that didn't hurt my back at least'. It is sore now though, now that the pain from my knee and ankle are abating a bit. Sitting still my back hurts, moving about my knee hurts ... I have no idea what to do for the best!! Alan is asleep at the moment, but I am going to go and poke him to make sure he's still alive in a minute ... he'll love me for that!

I'm so glad you have hot water again, you don't realise how much you use hot water over the course of the day until you don't have it do you.

    2. Oh no....poor you....I'm afraid of falling now as I don't bounce like I used to, Sue, hope your bruises heal soon.
Too right regarding hot water. No baths or showers ...aargh! And carrying hot kettles to the bathroom to wash bits of me is no picnic!! ;)

  4. Oooh. Falls. Be glad that you have ice to blame your fall on. I fell off a sidewalk. That's it. No ice. Nothing to blame it on but a serious deficiency of grace. Feel better soon. Those knees are a pretty tricky joint.

    1. It's so easy to do isn't it, and not as funny as you get older. I now have one knee an inch and a half bigger than the other one ... thank goodness I don't wear skinny jeans!!

  5. You poor thing, I hate icy weather with a passion ,I have had 3 falls in my 66 years ,all on my backside, one particularly nasty which I am sure is why I have lower back problems now, and it's not true what they say, a large squidgy bottom cushions the blow , as mine fits that description and it still bloomin hurts , I hope you feel better soon. We are nearly done too ,it's such a relief when you can just sit back and wait for a day of overeating ,present opening and hopefully lots of love and laughter . x

    1. Oh I've had countless falls in my 62 years, and most of them as you say shouldn't have hurt with all my rear end padding .... but they do don't they. Why two people who fall so often decided to live on a very sloping Welsh hillside I'll never know ... we had some classics back then!!

  6. Ouch, and not remotely funny. Glad you are not more badly hurt. It was the same here this morning and both Himself and I nearly went over at different times when we had to be outside.

Lovely though, that both your boys have been able to visit.

    Hope you feel better soon.

    1. It was lovely to see both boys again, on different days unfortunately but brilliant nonetheless.

    1. We should both be fine for Christmas ... if not, then at least the alcohol will numb the pain. ;-)

  8. I have a grandson who was born on 31 December and he will be 18 this year. The oldest grandchild we have. Have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    1. I felt sorry when he was born that he didn't hang on just one more day, then he would have been a 2019 baby. But his dad, my grandson was bought exactly at midnight and the midwives didn't know which day to class his birth on, so they are both unique in their own way. My oldest grandchild is 23 and my youngest is 3, my oldest great-grandchild is almost 4 and my youngest 10 months.

  9. Ouch! You poor love, I hope you're okay and feeling better.
I've not even thought of Xmas yet and I even missed the last day for posting cards. Non-blog reading pals will think I'm dead. xxx

  10. Ouch, I do hope you are feeling less pain now. I am hoping to have Christmas done and dusted by Thursday. Just have baking left to do and I think I will make it.

    God bless.

    1. I think we all sound pretty organised this year. It's going to be a simple and quiet Christmas for us and that suits us just fine.

  11. Hugs and healing wishes for you both. Falling on ice is not fun. I ended up in hospital with a brain bleed. I now wear serious spikes on my footwear in the winter and even then try to avoid ice.

    1. I'm usually really good at avoiding slippy patches, but the yard was completely clear when we went in and then an ice-rink when we came out. I had my most rubber soled boots on but they did no good whatsoever. :-(
