Betwixtmas Day One - Dairy Free Cheese and Garlic Jam

Last year I coined a new word, well I think I coined it, who knows maybe it's real.

When I tried a Google search I just got Twixmas, which sounds like a poor relative of my previous favourite chocolate bar.  A later search gave me an entry in the Urban Dictionary that yes, does describe it as the week in-between Christmas and New Year.

There was one more delivery that arrived on Christmas Eve, just in the nick of time for Christmas nibbling.

A wonderful selection of dairy-free cheeses along with some crackers, some dairy-free handmade butter and a jar of the most delicious looking garlic jam.

All this was a treat I bought for myself at the start of December from I AM NUT OKAY not really realising that the cheese etc would be sent out in Christmas week.  The poor company had a headache and a half getting their deliveries sorted out with all the postal strikes and heavy use of alternative couriers.  But they did it and I got my lovely cheeses.

They are now all safely filed in the fridge drawer in date order, so that all this deliciousness gets eaten and not wasted.

I hate small talk, but I love a few words that really make you think.

  1. Your not-cheese hamper looks fabulous, deliveries must have been expensive nightmares for so many small companies this year.

Love your meme, so very true - those small, special, moments of conversation are the ones which you remember fondly and often stay in the heart. A day late (as usual) but Yuletide Blessings to you all, hope everyone is having a lovely holiday.

    1. It was a beautifully packed hamper and a pleasure to open. They did well as a small company to get over a 1000 orders out in the week before Christmas, and they kept in contact with everyone to let them know what was happening. I emailed them with thank and Christmas wishes and got a lovely email back.

They appeared a few weeks back on the programme Aldi's Next Big Thing on deli week.

  2. The Garlic Jam might have given me a plan for next years hamper gifts!
Your special cheeses all sound very good - enough for a "few" days I think

    1. Oh I think they will last me quite a long time, I have until April to eat everything up. Alan has plenty of dairy cheese of his own so these are all mine. :-)

I should imagine making Garlic Jam will be relatively easy. If it helps the ingredients in this one are: Sugar, Onions, Roasted Garlic, Water, White Wine Vinegar, Dried Onions, Lemon Juice, Salt, Oil and Stabiliser.

The hamper(s) sounds fantastic and I'm very glad it arrived in time. Happy Boxing Day. xx

    1. I've always loved the word 'betwixt' it seems very Dickensian and Christmassy, and of course you may have Betwixtmas to use yourself. I hope you have a lovely Boxing Day. xx

    1. It's just like a garlicky chutney instead of a fruity one, and one that you would serve up in the same way either on crackers with cheese or in sandwiches with cold cuts or cheese, or perhaps just on the side of a Ploughman's lunch.

Yes, betwixt is a lovely word isn't, I'll have to head to your blog and play 'spot the betwixt' :-)

  5. My daughter is gluten-free, dairy-free but I never thought to look online for food gifts for her. Clever idea!

    1. There's so much available and so many small businesses supplying it, and if that fails there's always Amazon.

  6. What a lovely hamper. Yes, small companies have really had a tough Christmas regarding sales. They must have lost so much money as well as it being a logistical nightmare. Garlicky chutney sounds much nicer than garlic jam!
    Enjoy your day Sue x

    1. I feel sorry for small businesses heading into the New Year, so many people are talking of not shopping it's going to be a tough time for them. Garlic chutney does sound more as it should than garlic jam.

  7. I never knew there was such a thing as dairy free cheese or butter! What a blessing for the lactose intolerant. Sitting here watching it snow and thinking about that garlic jam...I might give a try at making that.

    1. Oh gosh yes, there has been for years, it's a real lifesaver ... for some people quite literally.

We have just had nothing but rain since the week before Christmas, a little bit of snow would be wonderful to see the year out.
